SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN WHILE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. CAR WAS TOWED AND HAD CAM SENSORS REPLACED. TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT THEN WOULD BEGIN TO ABRUPTLY SHIFT BUT NOT GAIN SPEED. THERE WAS ALSO KNOCKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND VICE VERSA. WOULD AT TIMES BE STUCK AT 20MPH OR THE ENGINE WOULD REV. HAD TO PULL OVER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR FEARING THAT IT MIGHT ACCELERATE AND REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE OR ABRUPTLY LOSE SPEED AND MYSELF BE REAR ENDED. 6/10/2011 THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHICH PREVENTED THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING. THIS WAS WHILE ON THE TURNPIKE IN PA WITH TRAFFIC MERGING AND MOVING AT SPEEDS OF UP TO 75MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I SEE TRANSMISSION ISSUES ARE VERY COMMON FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL CAR THROUGH THE PRODUCTION YEARS OF 04-07. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I CAN SEE IT LEADING UP TO AND INCLUDING DEATH DUE TO AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I AM AGAIN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSIONS SHOWING SIGNS OF FAILURE AGAIN. SINCE THIS APPEARS AFTER THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I WILL LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE BEFORE I DRIVE IT AGAIN. IT WILL DRIVE FINE FOR A FEW MILES AND START LURCHING AGAIN. THE EVENT IS AS POWERFUL AS BEING HIT FROM THE REAR WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER CHARGED $200 TO FLUSH THE TRANS BUT THIS HAD NO EFFECT. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO ENGAGE THE DEALER BUT HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND IT IS WIDE SPREAD WITH THIS MODELS' 2005 & 2006 YEAR VEHICLES BUT IS DENIED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS A WARRANTY COVERAGE PROBLEM. THE CAR NOW HAS 86000MI, BUT THE SHIFTING/SLIPPING BEGAN AT ABOUT 77000MI. WE HAD A FLUID SERVICE DONE RECENTLY HOPING THIS WOULD CURE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT. THIS WAS DONE AT 84000MI. THE MECHANICAL FAILURE WHILE DRIVING CAME WITHIN INCHES OF HER BEING BROADSIDED BY A ONE TON COMMERCIAL DELIVERY TRUCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAVE A 2006, NISSAN MAXIMA SE. I'VE BEEN HAVING SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION. THE CAR JERKS VIOLENTLY WHEN ITS CHANGES GEARS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND, AS WELL AS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, I'VE SEEN COUNTLESS NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM.
