CONTACTED A MECHANIC BECAUSE MY TRUCK WOULD SHAKE AT SPEEDS AT OR ABOVE 50 MPH. IT WAS ALSO STARTING TO SHIFT VERY HARD. THE MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR FAILING AND CAUSING COOLANT AND WATER TO GET INTO THE TRANSMISSION... WHICH ISNT GOOD AT ALL FOR IT. RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION ARE SHOT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. HE TELLS ME THAT NISSAN HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW WHICH WAS NEWS TO ME. YOU WOULD THINK NISSAN WOULD LET OWNERS KNOW ABOUT A PROBLEM SO SEVERE AND COMMON. NOW I'M ON THE HOOK FOR $4000 THANKS TO NISSAN AND IT VERY UNPROFESSIONALISM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE FAULTY RADIATOR CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000. I AM YET ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR PROBLEM ALONG WITH HUNDREDS, POSSIBLY THOUSANDS OF OTHER CUSTOMERS. DEFECTIVE RADIATOR ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION WHICH IS NOW OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK, 4/13/2014, SUNDAY A.M. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER (NO FORWARD MOTION) I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER TO THE SLOW LANE AND STOPPED. THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION ON ALAMEDA BLVD. I BOUGHT MY 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, DURING THE DEALER INSPECTION THEY NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE NOISE IS A WHINING SOUND AND I THOUGHT NOTHING OF THE NOISE UNTIL THEY STATED THAT ITS THE TIMING CHAIN AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FROM THE RESEARCH I DID THE TIMING CHAIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NON-SERVICEABLE ITEM AND SHOULD LAST THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN MOTOR CORP IS AWARE OF. NISSAN MOTOR CORP HAD ISSUED TSB'S FOR THIS ITEM AND THEY HAVE EVEN BEEN PART OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. WHY WERE NISSAN OWNERS NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE? WE BOUGHT THIS NISSAN NEW IN 2006 -GREAT LITTLE TRUCK. BUT RECENTLY THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON. TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC HE SAID IT WAS A TRAN CODE TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE COOLANT HAD GOTTEN INTO THE TRANS OR VISE VERSA (A LOT TO TAKE IN),SO I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. I FOUND THIS ISSUE ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR A RECALL BUT MY VEHICLE WAS WITHIN THE YEARS OF THE RECALL BUT IT HAS OVER 100,000 IT HAS130 SO THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP WITH THE $5500 BILL THEY JUST QUOTED ME. I FEEL THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONING SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE ON THESE VEHICLES AND IS DANGEROUS TO THE PUBLIC. IF THE SYSTEM FAILS THE DRIVER WOULD BE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN THEIR SPEED AND EXPOSE THEM TO THE RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED IF THEIR VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLS. THE DEALER STATES THE KNOWN DEFECT IS BEYOND THE 100,000 MILE CUTOFF FOR THE EXTEND MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY THAT DEALS WITH THIS COMMON AND WELL KNOWN DEFECT. WAS DRIVING FINE UP TO THE POINT WHERE WE SEEMED TO HAVE LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. WHEN WE PRESSED THE GAS, IT APPEARED TO BE IN NEUTRAL, ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T. THIS HAPPENED AS WE DROVE DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE ENDED UP COASTING TO THE SIDE AND PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK, THEN REENGAGED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO DRIVE, IT THEN TOOK OFF AND WE SLOWLY DROVE TO A PARKING LOT BEFORE IT FAILED AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $5,000 IN REPAIRS FOR THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS VERY ISSUE FOR SEVERAL MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THE COST FOR THE REPAIR IS $6500. I ASKED THEM IF THIS WAS SOMETHING NORMAL AND THEY SAID IT WAS UNUSUAL. I DID SOME CHECKING ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT REGARDING THIS DEFECT. OTHER SITES DIRECTED ME TO MAKE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU BECAUSE THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND DUE TO THE FACT THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT WAS ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS. GIVEN THIS I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT WITH YOU IN HOPES THIS WILL TURN INTO A RECALL. ALSO, MADE A CLAIM TODAY WITH NISSAN AND EXPECTING A CASE WORKER...

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO DISPLAY ACCURATE FUEL LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. AS A RESULT, THE RADIATOR, THE POWER TRANSMISSION, AND STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000(FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.

MY 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER SE CREW CAB CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT ABOUT 100,000 MILES. I READ THE CODE AND IT INDICATED THAT AN EMISSION PROBLEM (I.E. A SENSOR OR CATALYTIC ISSUE) WAS THE MATTER. SOON AFTER THE TRUCK BEGAN TO EXHIBIT A STRANGE VIBRATION IN WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE ENGINE SPECIFICALLY AROUND 40-45 MPH. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN AT 101,000 MILES TO HAVE IT SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT NOT ONLY DID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEED REPLACING BUT ALSO THERE WAS RADIATOR FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE BILL WAS OVER $6,000. I DECLINED THE SERVICE AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. THEY EXPLAINED THAT I WAS 1000 MILES OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WISHED ME TO HAVE A NICE LABOR DAY WEEKEND. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND NOTICE SMOKE COMING FROM NEAR (IT TURNS OUT IT WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH) ABOUT FEW SECONDS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING, MY NISSAN PICKUP ENGINE LOST SOME SPEED AND IT APPEARS TO HAVE LOST POWER AS WELL BECAUSE IT WAS NOT ACCELERATING. I TOOK IT FOR INSPECTION TO 2 DIFFERENT AUTO SHOPS LOCALLY AND HAVE GOTTEN THE SAME REPORTS FROM BOTH SHOPS.I HAVE A BAD TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKS SEEMS TO HAVE CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. AS I BEGAN TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY AND INCREASE SPEED TO ABOUT 65 MPH, I NOTICED WHAT FELT TO BE A SLIP IN GEARS. EACH TIME I DECREASED BY SPEED AND INCREASED OVER 50 MPH, I COULD FEEL THE SAME TYPE OF SLIP. ALTHOUGH I DRIVE MY VEHICLE DAILY, IT IS USUALLY FOR VERY SHORT DISTANCES, AS I AM IN TOWN DRIVING. I HAD DRIVEN APROX 20 MILES ON INTERSTATE WHEN I NOTICED WHEN TRUCK SHIFTED BETWEEN 4TH AND OVERDRIVE THE MOTOR WAS RACING. I TURNED OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND TURNED OF THE OVERDRIVE WITH THE TRAILER SWITCH. I STOPPED AT STATION CHECKED FLUIDS BUT EVERYTHING SEEMED OK. TRANSMISSION COOLER FAILED CAUSING COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. TRANSMISSION SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED. NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS A KNOWN DEFECT. ~$4000 COST OF REPAIR AND AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP. *TR
WHILST TRYING TO DRIVE FORWARD, THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO HAVE ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO DRIVE- IN OTHER WORDS THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. BEGAN A SEARCH ON LINE AND FOUND AN ARTICLE ON THE FRONTIER'S ANTI-FREEZE MIXING WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT ENTERING THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING FAILURE. I CHECKED THE OVERFLOW TANK AND IT HAD TRANS FLUID ON TOP OF THE COOLANT AND THE RADIATOR HAD A RED FOAM COMING OUT. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND IT WAS CONFIRMED. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED INTO SECOND GEAR. THE FRONTIER IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN. I WAS DRIVING IN FRONT OF A TRACTOR TRAILER AND JUST MISSED GETTING REAR ENDED.
