TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. WHEN THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BUTTON TO OPERATE THE TAILGATE, THE TAILGATE OPENED, BUT THEN SUDDENLY CLOSED AS THE LIFTS FRACTURED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V867000 (STRUCTURE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHERRY HILL MITSUBISHI (1805 MARLTON PIKE W, CHERRY HILL, NJ 08002, 856-471-1057) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TAILGATE STRUTS WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,035.
