TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING THE 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WITH 52000 FAILURE MILEAGE AT 45 MPH THE VEHICLE HIT A POT HOLE AND BOTH PASSENGER FRONT AND REAR RIMS CRACKED , AND THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER TIRES INSTANTLY LOST AIR PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE RIMS WERE REPLACED. THE DRIVER HIT A POT HOLE ON 2-27-07, AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE LOST AIR PRESSURE. THE CONTACT WILL NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THIS TIME. *AK
GENTLY DRIVEN 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE WHEELS BENT OUT OF SHAPE, CAUSING A TIRE TO LOSE AIR/BLOW OUT WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. NARROWLY AVOIDED COLLISION AFTER BLOWOUT. *NM
BROUGHT USED MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 2000GT. VERIFIED THROUGH CAR CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE, NONE ON RECORD. CAR HAD ONE OWNER BEFORE MYSELF. THE CAR HAS GIVEN ME PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE. IT WAS PARKED IN MY CARPORT FOR SIX MONTHS UNTIL MY DAUGHTER GOT HER DRIVERS LICENSE AT THIS TIME I KEPT IT RUNNING. ONCE DAUGHTER GOT DRIVER'S LICENSE AND STARTED TO DRIVE VEHICLE, IT WAS VIBRATING BADLY. MAINT PERSON SAID IT WAS THE TIRES AND THE RIMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. ALL THE RIMS WERE BAD. EACH RIM HAD A SMALL DENT OF SOME SORT. SEEING HOW WE NEVER REALLY DROVE THIS VEHICLE IT SHOULD HAVE DRIVEN FOR A WHILE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A KNOW DEFECT WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. *NM
DT*: THE VEHICLE HAD A 2 INCH HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE RIM WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THE TIRE WOULD HAVE HAD TO DEFLATE FIRST BUT THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THE RIM WENT OUT FIRST DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE HOLE IN THE RIM IN COMPARISON TO THE SMALL MARK ON THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE RIM HAD BLOWN OUTWARD TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE RIM. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE RIM WAS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE 2 COMPLAINTS. MY WHEELS WERE ALSO DENTED AND FRACTURED UPON INSPECTION AND HAD VISIBLE WEAR TO MY TIRES. TWO DIFFERENT GARAGES HAD STATED TO GO TO THE DEALER AND CHECK ON IT. THEY OF COURSE SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND JUST TO BUY NEW RIMS AT $385.00 EACH OR TIRES. OF COURSE, AFTER BUYING TIRES A FEW TIMES, I JUST BOUGHT AFTER MARKET RIMS. THE SECOND COMPLAINT, IS I HAVE HAD VISIBLE CORROSION ON THE BATTERY CABLES ON MY CAR FOR YEARS AND ASKED THE DEALER IF THERE WAS A REASON SO MUCH IS GATHERING, THEY ADVISED NO. WELL, I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND STILL AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS SUCH AS: AIR CONDITIONER GOES OUT WITH THE LIGHT BLINKING, CAR DOES NOT START, OR WHILE DRIVING IT WILL STALL AS WELL AS RUN VERY SLUGGISH. CONTACT STATES: WHILE SHE WAS WASHING VEHICLE SHE NOTICED A CRACK IN DASHBOARD. ALSO, A CRACK IN RIM. SHE HAS NOT HAD ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT TO CAUSE THESE PROBLEMS. SHE SAID THAT THERE WAS A FILM ON THE INSIDE WINDSHIELD. THE FILM WAS PROBABLY MOISTURE WERE IT HAD RAINED.*AK
RECENTLY TOOK MY MITSUBISHI 2000 ECLIPSE TO GET AN ALIGNMENT. SHOP REFUSED TO COMPLETE IT BECAUSE 3 OF MY RIMS WERE BENT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE TIRES WILL HOLD AIR, BUT TIRE NOISE CAN BE HEARD WHEN DRIVING ESPECIALLY AT 55 MPH OR HIGHER AND THE WHEEL WILL SHAKE WHEN NEEDING TO BRAKE AT HIGH SPEEDS. MY MECHANIC HAS SAID ALL 3 RIMS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE ANYTHING CAN BE DONE.*AK

THREE OTHERS BENT IN APRIL 2004 AND ONE IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL TIRE PRESSURE REQUIRING ME TO CHANGE TO THE SPARE ON A DANGEROUS INTERSTATE ROADSIDE. MANUFACTURER WANTED $500 PER WHEEL TO REPLACE. I REPLACED ALL 4 WHEELS WITH AFTERMARKET WHEELS OF THE SAME SIZE AND WEIGHT FOR HALF THE PRICE AND HAVE HAD NO MORE BENT WHEELS!*AK
I OWN A 2000 ECLIPSE GT AND HAVE EXPERIENCED CONSISTENT WHEEL/TIRE PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE. THE MOST RECENT WAS A BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED (IN DENSE TRAFFIC) WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ALL 4 ORIGINAL FACTORY RIMS ON THIS CAR HAVE BEEN DENTED, AS WELL AS 2 REPLACEMENT RIMS UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I'VE HAD NUMEROUS FLATS DURING BOTH DRIVING AND PARKED CONDITIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING OR DENTED RIMS. AFTER RESEACHING THE ISSUE ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT MANY OTHER ECLIPSE OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DIFFICULTIES. SINCE I ALREADY HAVE SPENT SIGNIFICANT TIME AND MONEY REPAIRING/REPLACING DANGEROUS LEAKING TIRES/DAMAGED FACTORY RIMS, I HAVE NOW CHOSEN TO REPLACE THE CURRENTLY DAMAGED RIMS WITH CUSTOM RIMS TO AVOID FURTHER ISSUES WITH MITSUBISHI MANUFACTURED WHEELS.*AK

THE 17 INCH RIMS OF MY 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE WERE CONSISTANTLY AND SEVERLY BENT. BECAUSE OF THIS MY TIRES WORE IN AN ABNORMAL WAY. BEFORE I KNEW THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE RIMS, I REPLACED TWO RIMS AND TIRES. ON MY 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT, ALL FOUR 17" RIMS BECAME BENT. THIS CREATED BUBBLING IN TIRES, IMPROPER TIRE WEAR, AND DIFFICULTY IN WHEEL ALIGNMENT. RIMS WERE BENT DURING NORMAL DRIVING; POTHOLES WERE NOT CAUSE OF DAMAGE. REPLACED TIRES AND RIMS. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO REMEDY PROBLEM IN EXISTING VEHICLES. I OWN A 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE WITH STOCK 17" RIMS. IN THE LAST 4 YEARS, I'VE EXPERIENCED 4 FLAT TIRES AND NUMEROUS BENT RIMS FROM REGULAR FREEWAY AND STREET DRIVING. IT APPEARS THAT THE STOCK 17" RIMS ARE TOO SOFT AND HAVE A TENDENCY TO BEND EASILY. EACH OCCURENCE FORCED ME TO REPAIR THE WHEEL AND REPLACE THE FLAT TIRE. IT HAS COST ME OVER $2000 IN REPAIRS AS WELL AS AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF LOST WAGES FROM MISSING WORK DUE TO LACK OF TRANSPORTATION. THE RIMS ON MY 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE WERE STARTING TO BEND. PARTICULARLY THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE RIM WHICH ON ONE SIDE BECAME ALMOST FLAT IN ONE AREA. AFTER ONE OCCASION OF DRIVING MY VEHICLE I NOTICE THAT I HAD A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE TIRE OF THAT RIM. IT WAS LARGE ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE TIRE TO PEEL OFF FROM THE RIM. DRIVING MY 2000 MITSUBUSHI ECLIPSE GT WITH STOCK 17" RIMS AND TIRES, I HIT A RELATIVELY MILD POTHOLE WHICH BENT THE RIM. THE RIM WAS SO BADLY DAMAGED THAT IT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT MY EXPENSE. SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING HOME ON THE MORNING OF 8/1/04 I BECAME AWARE THAT MY FRONT LEFT TIRE WAS FLAT. AFTER REPLACING THE WHEEL WITH ITS SPARE I WENT TO THE TIRE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES SO THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE LEAK. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A BENT WHEEL RIM. TWO OF MY WHEEL RIMS WERE BENT. I WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT UNTIL THAT DAY NEITHER RIM WAS BAD ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN AIR LEAK. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE HIT A POT HOLE AND THE REAR AND PASSENGER SIDE RIMS BENT. TWO OF MY WHEELS ON MY 2000 MITUSBISHI ECLIPSE HAVE SIGNIFICANT BENDS ON THEM FROM NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. AS A RESULT OF THE WHEELS BEING BENT IT CREATED UNEVEN WARE IN MY TIRES AND BRAKE ROTORS. I HAVE HAD THE TWO WHEELS STRAIGHTENED BY A WHEEL SHOP ON TWO OCCASIONS AND PAID $75 FOR EACH ONE.
THE DESIGN OF THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSMISSION SYNCHROS AND THE CLUTCH MECHANISM HAS BEEN FAULTY WHICH CAUSES THE FOLLOWING PARTS TO FAIL A LOT EARLIER THAN ANY NORMAL VEHICLE. - THE CLUTCH PLATE GETS WORN BEFORE TIME - THE THROW OUT BEARING (TOB) HAS A RATTLE - THE CLUTCH HAS A RATTLE - THERE IS VERY HARD GEAR SHIFT INTO THE 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. THE 2ND GEAR IS VERY HARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS COLD START.(THAT IS NOT PARTICULARLY COLD AT THE END OF THE MONTH OF MARCH IN HOUSTON, TEXAS) - IT IS ALSO DUE TO THE "POOR" SYNCHRONIZERS IN THE TRANSMISSION BOX - THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY A LOT OF MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT V6 USERS FOR THE 3RD GENERATION I.E. 2000+ MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CARS WITH A MANUAL SHIFT - THIS IS DUE TO SUBSTANDARD TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH QUALITY FROM MITSUBISHI

I AM FILING THIS CLAIM BECAUSE THE DAMAGE WAS NOT CAUSED BY LARGE POTHOLES OR SERIOUS IMPACTS, AND NO TIRE DAMAGE OCCURRED. *LA

MY FIRST INCIDENT WAS AT THE END OF MARCH AND THEN I HAVE HAD ANOTHER IN DEC 2003. THE RIMS ON THIS CAR ARE WEAK AND THEY BEND, CRACK AND BREAK TIRES. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO HAVE ON THE ROAD. AS AN EXAMPLE, AFTER THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, THERE IS STILL NOT A SINGLE DOOR DENT OR CHIP, DUE TO THE FACT THAT I EXERCISE THE EXTRA EFFORT TO PARK FAR AWAY FROM OTHER VEHICLES AND WALK THE EXTRA DISTANCE TO MY DESTINATION. THEREFORE IT'S REASONABLE TO ASSUME THAT I WOULD ALSO STEER CLEAR OF POTHOLES, ETC., AND I HAVE THE PAPER WORK TO PROVE THAT I HAVE MAINTAINED MY CAR ACCORDING TO STANDARDS SET BY MITSUBISHI. I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2000 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GS, I NEVER ONCE HAVE HIT ANY POT HOLES, BUT FOR SOME ODD REASON, MY RIM HAS DENTED SEVERELY. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, THAT IS WHY IT IS A CONCERN TO ME. IF SOMEONE COULD KINDLY RESPOND IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *JB
YEAR 2000 - MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WITH 17" WHEEL OPTION - FACTORY EQUIPPED 17" WHEEL/TIRE OPTION. DENTS REPEATEDLY WHEN CONTACT IS MADE WITH A MODERATE OR LARGER SIZE ROAD DEFECT. DENTED WHEELS LEAK AIR AND CAUSE CONSIDERABLE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO OUT OF BALANCE SITUATION DENTS CAUSE. A WHEEL SUDDENLY LOST ALL PRESSURE AND THE TIRE BECAME UNSEATED FROM THE RIM. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR BECAUSE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AT A RELATIVELY LOW SPEED. THE RIM STRUCK THE GROUND DIRECTLY AND WAS DAMAGED WHERE TIRE CONTACTS WHEEL. I HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF CARS IDENTICAL TO MINE AND ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD AT LEAST ONE DENTED WHEEL (17" WHEEL OPTION). ALL DENTS OCCUR WHERE THE WHEEL MEETS THE RIM ON THE OUTER FACING SIDE OF THE RIM. THE INNER RIM DOES NOT BEND, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN...
WHILE DRIVING IN BOSTON, MA AROUND RUSH HOUR, A SMALL POT HOLE WAS HIT. CAR WAS NOT TRAVELLING AT MORE THEN 25MPH. THE RIM BENT CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. RIM NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

I HAVE A REAL CONCERN REGARDING THE 2000 ECLIPSE RIMS. 3 OF MY 4 RIMS ARE DENTED AND ONE TIRE LEAKS AIR CONSTANTLY DUE TO THE MALFORMED RIM.THESE RIMS ARE VERY SOFT-THEY DAMAGE EXTREMELY EASILY, ON THE SLIGHTEST OF BUMPS. SINCE I PURCHASED THE ECLIPSE IN JUNE OF 2002, I HAVE BEEN PLAGUED WITH DEFLATING TIRES AND FLATS. NO ONE HAD DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM UNTIL 9/16/2002 WHEN I SUFFERED ANOTHER FLAT. THE PREVIOUS FRIDAY I HAD STOPPED TO HAVE AIR PRESSURE CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THE PRESSURE WAS FINE. HOWEVER, ON THE MORNING OF 9/16/2002 I SUFFERED ANOTHER FLAT TIRE. THIS TIME THE TIRE SHOP RECOGNIZED THAT THREE OF FOUR RIMS WERE BENT. I WENT TO MITSUBISHI, STERLING VA, TO PURCHASE A RIM. UPON RETURN TO THE TIRE STORE WITH THE RIM, THEY INSPECTED ALL RIMS AND SAID THAT TWO OTHERS WERE BENT. I ENDED UP REPLACING ALL FOUR TIRES (OVER $800) AND ONE RIM. ON 9/17/2002 I CALLED MITSUBISHI IN CALIFORNIA AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 17" ALLOY WHEELS BUT NO RECALL. MY CONCERNS ABOUT SAFETY AND NAGGING LOW TIRE PRESSURE WAS RECOGNIZED.
