May 14, 2025 Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, which has only 60,000 miles and has already required several major repairs that raise serious safety concerns. To date, I have had to replace three brake calipers and the emergency brake, at a cost of over $2,500. The calipers were seizing, and the emergency brake would not release properly, both of which posed clear risks while driving. I understand through forums and peer discussions that other owners have faced similar issues. In addition, my vehicle now has an oil leak that will cost over $700 to repair, and the windshield washer fluid hose burst, requiring another replacement. These repeated failures on a relatively low-mileage vehicle suggest underlying quality and reliability issues. I believe these concerns warrant review, particularly the safety-related brake defects. I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate whether these failures are part...
Windshield has cracked from cold to hot transition upon vehicle startup without previous cracks or chips affecting said crack line. Available for inspection. Fear of possible windshield failure/full breakage at any given point. Continued cracking during vehicle start up/cold to hot transition happened 4 more times in last 30 days. No dealer, independent service center, manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others inspection. No warning lamps or messages.
Heater core constantly “clogs” and no longer blows hot air on drivers side of the vehicle. Either through the defroster vents or floor vents, this makes it difficult to defrost the drivers side windshield or side window (can’t see side mirror!). Jeep wants me to spend &3500 to replace entire system!!!
This event occurred on 12/16/2022. The temperature was 30 degrees Fahrenheit and was snowing in Chicago. Upon turning on the defrost setting in the vehicle, the windshield began to crack and put the safety of the passengers at risk. Upon keeping the defrost on, the crack on the windshield contend to grow (larger than 6"). There were no previous cracks or damage to the windshield. There were no warning lights or messages indicating any issues with the windshield.
Rear view camera failure. 2017 -2022 Jeep Wrangler JK, JKU, JL, JLU, and Gladiators have become infamous for back-up camera failures. Mine failed at 12,000 miles. Hundreds have failed with less then 1,000 miles. Others during pre-purchase test drives. As this equipment is a required safety device as of 2018, this has become a major safety recall issue. Go to any Jeep forum and type in “Back-up Camera failure” and you will find 100’s and 100’s of reports. Jeep is not properly addressing the issue as there are dozens of reports of multiple failures. There are indications that the failures may be related to MOPAR’s wireless software upgrade program, but no one knows for sure. As well, Jeep’s near silence on the issue is concerning. When returned to a dealership the reaction is usually one of surprise and astonishment that the problem has occurred followed by a hefty repair cost...
Windshield wiper motor was making a grinding noise, then today, stopped working. It was raining/foggy, couldn't see to drive.
