TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE CONTACT RESUMED CAUTIOUSLY WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
VIOLENT FRONT END SHIMMY KNOWN AS "DEATH WOBBLE". OCCURS AT SPEEDS OF 40-50 MPH. VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND IS UNCONTROLLABLE. INITIALLY, TAPPING THE BRAKES AND SLOWING SLIGHTLY WOULD STOP THE SHAKING, BUT PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO COME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP TO STOP THE SHAKING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE SHAKING POSES AN ACCIDENT RISK BY VIRTUE OF LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND/OR A REAR END COLLISION, AS THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO DO BUT BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SUDDEN STOP IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL. THIS ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AND IS THE SUBJECT OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 19-003-06 (AUGUST OF 2006). IT SHOULD BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT THIS TSB DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, IT ONLY MASKS THE PROBLEM BY ADDING A STEERING STABILIZER. *TR
DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60-65 MPH AROUND A SMALL BEND I HIT AN UNEVEN PART IN THE ROAD THE FRONT END STARTING SHAKING VIOLENTLY OUT OF CONTROL I ALMOST COULD NOT HOLD THE WHEEL. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE SHAKING DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I CAN TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS WAS ALSO IN A LOT OF TRAFFIC. ANOTHER MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH INTO THE WALL. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS BOUNCING UP AND DOWN THE WHEEL VIBRATING SO MUCH IT WAS HARD TO HOLD ONTO. AGAIN WITH PEOPLE DRIVING HOME IN RUSH HOUR I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THIS VIOLENT SHAKING WOULD STOP. AT HWY SPEEDS WHEN A BUMP IS HIT THE FRONT END AND ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY LIKE THE FRONT TIRES ARE GOING TO FALL OFF. THIS OCCURS JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME A BUMP IS HIT. ONLYWAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLOW TO 15 TO 20 MPH CREATING A TRAFFIC HAZARD. BALL JOINTS, STEERING DAMPER, FRONT END PARTS, NEW TIRES TO NO AVAIL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER 4DR 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH OVER A BUMP, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM, TIE ROD ENDS, STEERING DAMPER AND BALL JOINTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THEY WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE PARTS WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE LABOR. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED. DEFECT IS CALLED "DEATH WOBBLE" IN VARIOUS JEEP WRANGLER YEARS AND MODELS. MINE IS A 2007 WRANGLER X UNLIMITED. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THE PROBLEM WAS MUD IMPACTION AROUND AND INSIDE OF WHEELS. REMOVING ALL MUD DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. WORSENED PROBLEM AFTER CLEANING. REPLACED FRONT STABILIZER BAR3 WEEKS AGO. PROBLEM CONTINUES... WHICH IS:WHILE DRIVING ON A ROUGH ROAD OR HITTING A BUMP OR EVEN MODESTLY SHALLOW POTHOLE, FRONT END AND STEERING BEGINS SHAKING, WOBBLING, QUAKING TO POINT OF VEHICLE BEING COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL AND IS ALMOST IF NOT COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL WHICH IS MANAGED BY BRAKING TO COMPLETE HALT. HAVE NARROWLY AVERTED COLLISIONS AND COMPLETE VEHICLE CONTROL SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. REALLY AFRAID TO DRIVE JEEP, NOR CAN I ETHICALLY OR EFFECTIVELY SELL VEHICLE WITHOUT NOTIFYING "BUYER" OR THIS SERIOUS, BODILY AND LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE IF IT HITS A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. THIS VIOLENT SHAKING IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS "DEATH WOBBLE" AND THERE ARE COUNTLESS DOCUMENTED INSTANCES OF THIS IN TESTIMONIAL AND VIDEO FORM ON THE INTERNET. THIS VIOLENT SHAKING HAS OCCURRED 6 TIMES, ALL AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-65 MPH. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND WILL NOT FIX IT. 1. DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50MPH THE FRONT SUSPENSION WILL SOMETIMES GO INTO A VIOLENT OSCILLATION. THE STEERING WHEEL, SHIMMIES SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT CANNOT BE CONTROLLED. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING APART. NOT A SIMPLE WHEEL BALANCE SHIMMY, THIS IS A DANGEROUS VIOLENT OSCILLATION. 2. IT GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. 3. IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER WHICH MADE THE PROBLEM BETTER, BUT IT CAME BACK SLIGHTLY, AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE, AND WORSE. THERE IS SOME UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT THE STEERING STABILIZER IS MASKING. *TR

THE BRAKES SCARE ME AT TIMES, FEEL LIKE...
SEVERE WOBBLE AND OSCILLATION IN THE STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM. A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD, WHILE DRIVING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 35-70 MPH CAN INITIATE A SEVERE, VIOLENT SHAKING, AND A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. AFTER REPLICATING THE PROBLEM ON A PRIVATE ROAD, OBSERVERS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE NOTED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WOULD COMPLETELY LEAVE THE GROUND ON EACH OSCILLATION. MANY OTHER JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS REPORT SIMILAR INCIDENTS. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED AN INCREASE IN GIVE / LEEWAY IN THE STEERING COLUMN AT APPROX 15,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM INCREASED TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS A POPPING FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WHEN LIGHT PRESSURE IS PLACED ON THE FRONT WHEELS WHILE TURNING (TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS THROUGH TRAFFIC CIRCLES, GOING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT WHILE TURNING, SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD, ETC). THE FEEDBACK FELT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE UNTIL THE POINT IT FEELS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE BACK INTO THE ONLY 2 JEEP DEALERSHIPS WITHIN A 90 MILE RADIUS OF MY PLACE OF RESIDENCE MORE THAN 3 TIMES. AT FIRST THE FRONT END SWAY BAR WAS REPLACED, TO NO AVAIL. THE 2ND TIME THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT WAS REPLACED, WITH ONLY A SHORT TERM ALLEVIATION OF THE PROBLEM. AT FIRST WHEN THE SHAFT...
DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, WENT ACROSS A BRIDGE. THE JEEP STARTED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". AS SOON AS IT WENT OVER THE 'BUMP' ON THE BRIDGE, THE WHOLE JEEP STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE, AS IF THE WHOLE THING WAS FALLING APART. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE FREEWAY, COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. CONTENTS ARE LETTER FORWARD TO TERRA FLEX. ORIGINAL SENT TO VEHICLE OWNER. I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION WITH US. PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AT YOUR PICTURE. THE TAG STATES CLEARLY THE GREASE ZERT IS TO FACE DOWN. WHEN THE HEIM IS INSTALLED IN THIS POSITION THE ARM YOKE WILL NOT LINE UP WITH THE AXLE MOUNT " OFF CENTER BY 5 INCHES". THIS ARM USES AN OFFSET DESIGN HEIM. I PERSONALLY SPOKE WITH TECH SUPPORT AT TERA FLEX AND THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO PROCEED WITH INSTALLING THE ARM WITH THE GREASE ZERT FACING DOWN AND THE TAG FACING DOWN. TECH STATED THE ARM MUST HAVE BEEN MISLABELED. I ADVISED THIS WILL CHANGE THE SUSPENSION SYMMETRY AS WELL AS THE ARM COMING IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE FRAME WHEN THE AXLE REACHES TRAVEL LIMITS. WHO EVER I SPOKE WITH WAS GROSSLY MISS INFORMED. WE PROCEEDED UNDER ADVISEMENT BY TERA FLEX AND HAS NOW...
DRIVE A 2007 4-DOOR WRANGLER. WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASE, HIT A SMALL BUMP GOING AROUND 50 MPH ON HIGHWAY. CAR STEERING VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY MOVING ABOUT 2-INCHES SIDE TO SIDE. NO SHOULDER AVAILABLE (CAUSED OTHER CARS TO SWERVE AWAY FROM ME) BUT AFTER BREAKING, IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED. ASKED DEALER SERVICE WORKERS (WHILE IT WAS BEING LOOKED AT FOR SECOND RECALL FOR COMPUTER/BREAKS) WHY THIS WAS HAPPENING, THEY CLAIMED "THAT IS WHAT JEEPS DO". HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES UNTIL A WITNESS FROM THE ROAD PULLED ME OVER TO TELL ME "HE THOUGHT MY RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS GOING TO COME OFF." JEEP CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE. I HAVE A STOCK 2007 WRANGLER UNLIMITED X,6SPD. IT IS ONE YEAR OLD WITH 24,000KMS. AT APPROX. 8,000 KMS IT STARTED TO HAVE A SEVERE WOBBLE IN THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING SMALL BUMPS AT APPROX. 70 KMS OR MORE. THE INCIDENCE OCCURRED AT ABOUT A SPEED OF 40-55 MILES PER HOUR AFTER RIDING OVER FROST WAVES IN THE ROAD. THE JEEP WENT INTO A VIOLENT VIBRATION MODE WHERE STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND THE JEEP WAS OUT OF CONTROL.
