Defect: Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach...

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Recall 12V451000 — ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

| 1,596 vehicles affected

Defect: Jayco, Inc., (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 and 2011 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes, model year 2008-2011 Melbourne Class C motorhomes, and 2008-2010 Octane Sport Utility travel trailers manufactured from May 21, 2007, through September 10, 2010, equipped with Iota-brand transfer switches. These trailers may have an improper electrical connection at the buss bar on the affected transfer switches....

Consequence: Overheating and melting of the transfer switch increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transfer switch, free of charge. The recall began on October 10, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

RV WAS PARKED IN A SITE AT AN RV RESORT. ELECTRICAL SERVICE PROVIDED VIA A SHORELINE CABLE TO RESORT POWER. ELECTRICAL SERVICE SUDDENLY STOPPED. REPAIR SHOP FOUND THAT THE IOTA ENGINEERING ITS - 30RL AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH WAS MELTED AND BURNED. A RECALL WAS FOUND ONLINE # 12V451000, THAT STATED IN THE TEXT THAT SOME 2008 MODELS WERE EFFECTED. JAYCO REFUSE TO REIMBURSE US FOR THE REPLACEMENT SAYING OUR RV IS NOT PART OF RECALL. THIS PART COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE IN THE RV. WE ARE MOST CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE THE BURNED AND MELTED SWITCH BOX AND PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JAYCO MELBOURNE CLASS C EQUIPPED WITH A 2008 FORD E-450. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, A STRONG ELECTRICAL ODOR EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISABLED THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND NOTICED THAT THE IOTA TRANSFER SWITCH WIRES WERE COMPLETELY MELTED. THERE WERE NO FLAMES VISIBLE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V451000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000. THE MELTED IOTA TRANSFER SWITCH AND ASSOCIATED WIRING WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $243. COMPLAINANT STILL HAS THE MELTED TRANSFER SWITCH.
