WE TRAVELED FROM NEW MEXICO TO CALIFORNIA AND WHEN WE ARRIVED AND GOT IN TOWN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING ON CITY STREET
ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN SPEED SENSOR ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION AS REMOVED AS STATED ON THE HANES MANUAL FOR THE CAR BUT WHEN REINSTALLING A SPACER NOT MENTION IN THE BOOK AS NECESSARY FOR INSTALLATION FELL DURING REMOVAL AND AS RESULT NOT INSTALLED RESULTED ON THE BRAKING OF THE SENSOR WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO TOTALLY FAIL. I AM NOW WITHOUT CAR DUE A SIMPLE BOOK ERROR.
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SECOND HAND IN 2012 AND IMMEDIATELY NEEDED TO HAVE ITS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,000. EVEN NOW THERE IS OCCASIONAL SLIPAGE OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION, WHICH INDICATES TO ME IT MAY NOT BE LONG FOR THIS WORLD. IT'S PAINFULLY OBVIOUS HONDA BUILT AND INSTALLED SUP PAR TRANSMISSIONS FOR MANY YEARS, DESPITE MOUNTAINS OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS. THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN TO TASK FOR POOR DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE BRAKE, ABS, MAINTENANCE, CHECK ENGINE, AND BATTERY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SEVERE OIL LEAK, SLIPPING TRANSMISSION, AND ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE OIL FAILURE CAUSED THE DRIVE BELTS TO SLIP, WHICH CAUSED A FAILURE IN THE ALTERNATOR RECHARGING THE BATTERY AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE OIL LEAK. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT (STOCKTON HONDA, 2002 E HAMMER LN, STOCKTON, CA 95210, (844) 237-1845), BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 279,000.

MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS SLAMMING INTO 2ND TILL IT STARTED SLIPPING. I PUT IN A USED SOLENOID....BUT IT STILL SLIPS IN 2ND AND ANOTHER SYMPTOM IS TCS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER 5 MIN OR SO DRIVING. I ALSO CHECKED THE OTHER SOLENOIDS WHICH SEEM OK.
WE HAD THIS VAN, AND THREE TIME TRANSMISSION BLEW FIRST TIME IT BLEW AT 50,000 MILE, SECOND TIME IT BLEW AT 70000 AND THIRD TIME IT BLEW AT 112000 MILE, AND WE ARE NOT GETTING GOOD RESPONSE FROM HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. FIRST TIME WHEN IT BLEW, I CALL THEM THEY SAID YOU PASSED THE NUMBER OF YEARS SO WE ARE NOT GOING TO FIX IT FREE, I END UP PAYING FROM MY POCKET. I GOT NEW TRANSMISSION FORM HONDA, SECOND TIME WHEN IT BLEW THAT TIME IT IS ONLY 20,000 MILE, WHEN I WENT TO DEALER, THEY SAID THEY COVER ONLY 1 YEAR 12,000 WARRANTY, I END UP PAYING FROM MY POCKET, NOW THIS THIRD TIME IT BLEW UP, IF I AM NOT PROPER RESPONSE THEN I NEED TO THINK IN FUTURE, I MIGHT GO WITH DIFFERENT MANUFACTURE. THE WAS BROKEN THE TRANSMISSION AT 107,000 HONDA FIXED, AGAIN 127,000 AND I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT, AGAIN AT 163,000 AND HONDA FIXED, BUT I HAVE TO PAY AROUND 400.00 FOR SOME EXTRAS THEY REQUEST, AND NOW AGAIN AT 193,000. WE THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY A FILTER AS OTHER VEHICLES HAVE HAD. WHEN WE GOT IT HOME, WE CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION HAS NO WAY TO CHANGE FLUID OR FILTER. FIRST INCIDENT 5/5 08-TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT WENT ON. BROUGHT IT TO HONDA DEALER THE RAN THE CODE AND STATED INTERNAL TRANS FAILURE. SINCE WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND HAD ALL TRANS SERVICE AT HONDA THEY AGREED TO SPLIT HALF THE COST. I ASKED WHAT IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN THE SERVICE REP STATED "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT" IT WILL LAST AT LONG TIME. WELL HERE I AM AGAIN WITH 45,000 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD THREE TRANSMISSION FAILURES WITH THIS ODYSSEY. TWO WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE LAST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 50K MILES, SO IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE 36K WARRANTY. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT A VEHICLE COULD GO THROUGH THREE TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY INDEPENDENTLY AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
MOVING FROM STOP AT LOW SPEED THE TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY HESITATES BEFORE SHIFTING, FOLLOWED BY A LOUD THUMP WHEN IT DOES SHIFT. AT HIGHER SPEEDS, ONCE IN MOTION, THERE IS ROUGH SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR ALSO. DEALERSHIP VOLUNTARILY CONTACTED HONDA DISTRICT MANAGER IN CALIFORNIA FOR A DECISION ON WHETHER HONDA WOULD PARTICIPATE IN REPLACEMENT COST. REQUEST DENIED. *TR
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HONDA RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $6,400. WE DID SOME WEB RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS IN 2000 ODYSSEYS HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF EARLY MALFUNCTION. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALER ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THESE TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED WE CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. WE CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA, BUT THEY SAID IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE THE AGE PORTION OF THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM (8 YEARS) DESPITE BEING WELL INSIDE THE MILEAGE PORTION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 229,000.

THIS VEHICLE HAS ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS SINCE WE ACQUIRED IT IN 2006. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT JUST OVER 100,000 MILES. AFTER A HUGE FIGHT WITH HONDA THEY RELUCTANTLY AGREED (BECAUSE IT WAS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE "WARRANTY EXTENSION" FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECT) TO PAY HALF THE COST OF THE REPAIR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO COME ON, IN ADDITION TO OTHER ISSUES, INCLUDING EGR PROBLEMS, DESPITE REPLACING THE EGR, ETC. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT APPROXIMATELY 165,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AGAIN!! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME WHERE A PRIVATE MECHANIC INSPECTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 137,324.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THERE WAS NO OTHER ISSUES. LATER CHECKED WITH THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH $4500. CHECKED THE HONDA OWNER LINK AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON HONDA'S TRANSMISSION. IT EXTENDED ITS WARRANTY ON IT TO 100000 MILES/7 YEARS. MY CAR IS ALMOST 13 YEARS. I ALWAYS TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA DEALER TO SERVICE. I WAS NEVER BEEN TOLD IT HAD A RECALL. I HAVE BOUGHT MY USED ODYSSEY IN JANUARY 2012 FROM A DEALER AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 107,000 MILES. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2004 THAT HAD THE WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MILES AND AN APPROVED CLASS LAWSUIT IN 2006 THAT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY UP TO 109,000 MILES. THEREFORE, MY VAN IS STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE ITS AT 107,000.
