When I shifted to Park and hit the button to turn the car off, it continuously chimed and flashed the Shift to Park message on the dashboard. It would not allow me to fully turn off the car, stating I was not in Park, even though I was. I would have to turn the car back on, shift into drive or reverse, move forward or backward a little bit, hit the brake a few times, put it back to Park, hit the button, and hope it would turn off. It usually took four or five times of this routine before it would finally turn off correctly. It began happening more and more frequently over the course of a week by the time I could get it into the dealer. This is a safety issue, as the car was not fully in Park, and leaving it that way would have drained...
The Shift to Park feature malfunctions. Although my car is in Park it does not recognize it, gives me a 'Shift to Park' message and won't allow me to shut off the car. My car not correctly recognizing what gear it's in is a significant danger. This problem was a recall in 2017-2018 GMC Acadias but my car produced the same issue and was not recalled. The component was replaced by an IG Burton dealer. There were no other warning messages prior to the issue occuring.
As previously reported by other owners of a 2017, 2018, 2019 Acadia- the “shift to park” message appears once I have put my car in park and turned it off. I have to restart my car, move the shifter to reverse, back up a tad bit, and put it back in park for the message to go away so I am able to turn my car off.
Purchased this vehicle with 49,000 miles on it. Currently, it has 55,000. When I shift the car into park and turn it off. I am met with a consistent ding and error messages displaying “Shift to Park.” With this error message I am unable to fully turn my car off, it drains the battery and I cannot lock my car door. I have to turn the car back on and mess with the shifter which sometime takes a longtime. I cannot just leave my car on and drain the other components; it’s frustrating. I called my local GMC dealer. I told them about the current issues with these cars as it isn’t a secret that this is a common problem. I pointed out the TBS on this make and model and I’m expected to pay for this out of pocket because my powertrain warranty ended June 30th 2024.

When shifting to park and turning car off I get notification saying “shift to park” even when the car shows it is parked on the gear shift and dashboard screen.
When attempting to Shift To Park, the Power Train does not respond, an error message is displayed, and am unable to turn off the ignition or park the vehicle. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

it ask to shift to park while already in the park position
Shift to park malfunction. When I put car in park, “shift to park” lights up and beeps. I have to wiggle the gear shift up a bit to get it to go off. Takes several minutes at times. This started about 4 days ago. I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow. 68,300 miles on my vehicle. When I researched, several others complained about the Acadia’s shift to park malfunction.
Transmission flares going into and out of second gear cause to vehicle to feel as if its about stall out. Especially on hills. I had a vehicle almost run in to the back of me because of the decrease in acceleration.
In August 2021, I placed my vehicle in park and pressed the vehicle on/off button and received a message on the dashboard that stated "Shift to Park", even though the vehicle was in the off position. I was unable to turn my vehicle completely off (remained in auxiliary mode) and unable to lock the vehicle. I took my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer who notated the issue was inspected and verified with a repair procedure under TSB 19-NA-206. The service record reads "This condition is caused by the park switch in the transmission control not pulling BCM signal low to electronically show part position. Removed and reinstalled transmission control, installed new shifter harness and added wire harness jumper". In February 2024, the repairs completed by the dealer failed again, and this time the entire shifter (transmission control) needed to be replaced. The TSB that GM has put forth does not...
I am having trouble with my 2019 GMC Acadia. I keep getting a message that says shift to park. How many I get this repaired at no charge?
When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of ‘Shift to Park’ appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. This currently is forcing me to restart the engine, put my car in reverse, shift back in drive, try re-parking and turning it off again, repeating the process until it eventually turns off. I do not know if my car is truly in gear or not. I’m afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation.”
"shift to park" warning message. Unable to shut vehicle off or leave vehicle. Shifter is in the Park position but vehicle does not recognize it is in Park and will not shut off. Vehicle has never been in an accident. No residual code. Dealer will assess but not covered under any existing warranty or recall. Out of pocket expense. TSB 18-NA-297; replaced by 19-NA-206.
I placed the car into Park and the Shift to Park indicator light came on even though the car was in park. I was unable to turn the car off. I had to shift the car in and out of gear and sometimes drive the vehicle to finally get Shift to Light off and be able to turn off the car. This happened 3 times within one week. I read of numerous instances on-line where this same condition occurred in other GM vehicles. I took to Joseph GMC for repair and was charged $855.12 for repair since the car was out of warranty. (The car only had 28,058 at time of service.)
Getting a “Shift to Park” message when the vehicle is already in park
When the car is put In park there is a message that appears on the display when pushing start/stop to turn the car off "shift to park". The car has already unlocked and it turns off and restarts but the message keeps popping up

There is a “shift to park” message. The vehicles fails to recognize that it is in park and display a message urging me to “Shift to Park.” When this happens, I am unable to shut the car off, and this could cause my vehicles to roll away if it is not properly in Park. I would have to constantly wiggle and move the electronic shifter to get it to recognize that the shifter has been placed in the ‘Park’ position. This has resulted in me getting stuck in my car until I get the message to stop, which often time takes several tries and minutes.

The steering assist code comes on , the temp gage goes down , and it’s immediately hard to steer . All the lights come on , and drained the battery, this has happened several times
Shift to park error every time I park my car. It takes multiple times of shifting and what not to get the vehicle to shut off. I will be making a appointment with my dealer.
Vehicle is constantly giving “shift to park” error. The steering mechanism has also been compromised, and the vehicle makes persistent jerking motions with accelerating. This could be quite dangerous.

I just purchased this vehicle and within a day, it was already giving an alert that something was wrong. Says "action required, shift to park". My car was in park. It was not shutting off due to the notification, which leads your battery to drain. The next day, as I was driving with my kids, the headlights start flickering, and then shut off. It left us driving in the dark and nearly causing a wreck because someone didn't see us coming because it was too dark. The dealership said they look at it, so I don't know what will happen moving forward. It's definitely not safe unless the issue is addressed.
"Shift to park Warning light" comes on when turning off vehicle when vehicle is in park.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling and shifting into park(P) the “Shift to Park” message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was in the park(P). As a result, the contact was unable to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the contact was not informed of the result. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
2019 Acadia originally displayed a shift to park message at 12K miles and vehicle was still under warrantee. New shifter harness was installed and a wire harness jumper added. GM covered the cost of repairs. At the time I was told hopefully the repair fixes it but a chance it won't and will need to bring it back in. Two years later at 36K miles it occurred again but was out of bumper to bumper warrantee so GM would not cover and dealer would not give any discount. Both the dealer and the GM claim rep I talked to were not able to adequately explain why this is not considered in the powertrain warranty which is still valid. GM did reimburse 50% of the cost of repair but I am still out ~$380. This issue seems well documented across numerous models / years of GM products.
The shift to Park locks up and will not allow the vehicle to turn off. Receive an error message that the vehicle is not in Park.
The electrical and gear shift failed, causing a problem that GMC calls “shift to park.” Even when the car is placed in park, the car does not recognize that it was placed in park and cannot be turned off, preventing the driver from leaving the running car. This is a known problem that multiple dealers are aware of and there even appears to be a recall and lawsuits on the 2018 Acadias. However, on my 2019 Acadia, which has the same problem as the 2018 vehicle, this is a problem that costs hundreds of dollars to fix. This should be recalled because it renders the vehicle a safety hazard because it cannot be turned off and it is a known GMC problem that they refuse to fix.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after the transmission was shifted into park(P), the “Shift to Park” message was displayed. The contact shifted the gear shifter into several other gears and was able to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Vehicle has been bucking and jerking when trying to accelerate. Going up a hill is scary (especially with my kids in the car) because it slows the car down trying to find a gear. Dealership says it's a torque converter but since so many Acadia's are being recalled for transmission issues, we feel ours should be included as well. Dealership is making us pay for a transmission flush which doesn't make sense because if it weren't for these issues, we wouldn't need to have a flush.
The car is is giving a warning to Shift to Park even though the car is in park. GMC says this is a known issue and could become a safety issue but is not coving under warranty or recall.
I have the shift to park error where my car is not recognizing that it is in park and will not shut off. I have been held hostage inside my car, late for work, etc because my car will not shut off because it is not registering that it’s in park. Also, my breaks are unbareably loud with whatever switch they made to the “new” brake material.
Vehicle will not shift to park. Have to engage the parking brake to ensure vehicle will not roll away after shifting to park. Becuase the vehicle isn't actually shifting into park l, the vehicle will not shut off which drains the battery and leads to being unable to turnover the engine.
