Defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ameralite Cargo trailers. The welded trailer drawbars may be insufficient for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which can cause the drawbars to fracture.
Consequence: Fractured drawbars can cause a loss of trailer control and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the drawbars, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 1, 2023. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-848-1335. Forest River's number for this recall is 24-1592.

Defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Amera-Lite cargo trailers, models ALDD610SA, ALDR610SA, ALDD612SA and ALDR612SA, manufactured February 11, 2016, to May 11, 2016. The thickness of the steel tubes used to manufacture the trailer's drawbars may be insufficient for the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
Consequence: The drawbars can fracture and fail during operation, potentially resulting in a loss of control or the trailer detaching from the tow vehicle. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drawbars, free of charge. The recall began on October 24, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-848-9216. Forest River's number for this recall is 24-09142016-0244.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that the parts had been shipped to the local dealer for the recall repair. The contact stated that he later followed up with the manufacturer and was informed that the part was never shipped to the local dealer. The contact had not experienced a failure. The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH and descending a steep road grade, a 2016 Forest River Amera-lite box trailer that he was towing, the two supports which are welded to the trailer tongue had failed and the trailer separated from the hitch. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over as soon as he was aware the trailer was no longer attached to his vehicle. The contact stated that the trailer tongue was still attached to the trailer hitch ball on his vehicle. The contact stated that the trailer had drifted across two lanes of traffic and hit a guard rail on the front end of the trailer and then settled along the left side and slid down the guard rail and stopped. The contact stated that the front end of the fiber glass box trailer was cracked and the left side of the trailer was also cracked and gouged. The contact stated that he had the trailer towed back to his residence. The trailer had not been diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The trailer had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
THREE TIRES ON TRAVEL TRAILER HAD SUDDEN FAILURE (BLOW-OUTS) ON VACATION TRIP FROM OCT 16 TO OCTOBER 23, 2017. TRAILER WAS WITHIN WEIGHT LIMITS BASED ON CAT SCALE TICKETS FROM OCTOBER 16. TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED. THESE TIRES WERE ORIGINAL ISSUE ON THE TRAILER, HAD BEEN DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES, AND WERE ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD. BLOWN TIRES CAUSED $3,948 DAMAGE TO TRAILER. THESE WERE LIONSHEAD CASTLE ROCK ST TIRES. STATED HERE BECAUSE THAT IS NOT A CHOICE ON THE FOLLOWING PULL-DOWN TIRE BRAND MENU.
