OUR FORD FUSION ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED DYING IN TRAFFIC. WHEN STOPPING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IN TRAFFIC, THE IDLE WOULD DROP BELOW 5000 RPMS, THEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE WOULD DIE. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, WE WOULD HAVE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. USUALLY WOULD DIE AFTER SITTING STILL AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START BACKUP RIGHT AWAY, SO WE WERE STUCK ON THE ROAD UNTIL IT FINALLY DECIDED TO START. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR WRENCH WOULD DISPLAY. WE TOOK IT IN TO FORD DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MOST FORD FUSIONS, AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS THAT USE THE SAME THROTTLE BODY. IN 2013 I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF SPEED/POWER ON MY 2006 FORD FUSION. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A SHOPPING CENTER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE TRACTION LIGHT WHERE LIT ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP THE LIGHTS WERE OFF ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR SEEMED TO RUN FINE. I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT UNTIL 2014. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE WRENCH AND TRACTION LIGHTS. I TOOK IT AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE P CODE INDICATING THE THROTTLE. I DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME AND LOOKED UP THE P CODE AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PART. AFTER SLOWING DOWN JUST BEFORE THE STOP SIGN, MY CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER AND WHEN I TRIES TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE INTERSECTION IT STOPS ACCELERATING. I HAD TO LIMP ALONG TO GET HOME. LUCKILY, I WAS JUST ABOUT 1.5 MILES FROM HOME. I HAVE DONE FOR THIS CAR ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND NEVER MISSED THE RECOMMENDED PERIODICAL OIL CHANGES. I DRIVE LESS THAN 5000 MILES A YEAR WITH THIS CAR AN IT HAS LESS 59,000 MILES ON IT. THIS MUST BE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART FROM THE FACTORY AND I SHOULD NOT PAY FOR IT. THE FACTORY IGNITION COILS BEGAN TO SHORT AGAINST THE INTERIOR WALLS OF THE ENGINE HEAD ABOVE THE SPARK PLUGS. AS THEY SHORTED IT BURN THE POWER CONTROL MODULE (PCM). WITH NO PCM MY SPARK PLUGS FAILED TO LIGHT, CAUSING MY ENGINE BECOME FLOODED WITH GASOLINE, WHICH WASHED AWAY THE LUBRICANTS ON MY CYLINDER AND HEADS CAUSING ALL OF MY CYLINDERS AND HEADS TO BECOME DAMAGED. AS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. CAUSING ME TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND ALL OF THE OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONING COMPONENTS. VEHICLE LOSSES PROPULSION AT VERY INCONVENIENT TIMES ( I.E. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, AND PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC). I HAVE ATTEMPT TWO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS MY THROTTLE BODY. I EVEN CALLED FORD, AND THEY SAID "IF THE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY." I JUST WANT THIS PROBLEM TO STOP HAPPING BECAUSE I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO FIX IT. CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS, BATTERY, THROTTLE BODY (TWICE), AND EVEN DID THE OIL. NOTHING WORKS. I WAS ACCELERATING AS I WAS ENTERING/MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND STOPPED WITH A LOUD THUD. AFTER THE SUDDEN STOP, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WAS ERRATIC, MEANING THE RPM AND SHIFTING WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. I EXITED AS SOON AS THE NEXT EXIT WAS AVAILABLE. THEN, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, IT WENT "OUT OF GEAR" AND I WAS UNABLE TO PROPEL THE VEHICLE FORWARD. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE VALVE BODY OF THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS DUE TO FORD TSB DUE TO PART OF THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS DEFECTIVE. REFER TO NHTSA #10021277. IF I HAD BEEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR IF I HAD BEEN ATTEMPTING TO CROSS THE STREET AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PROPEL ITSELF FORWARD IN THE MANNER I EXPECT, IT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENT....
