I was driving down the road and my car just stopped like it went into Neutral but it was in drive the car starts up but when I’m Drive doesn’t go anywhere
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled with the battery, oil pressure, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM PRIVATE SELLER. ON THE DRIVE HOME I TURNED ON AC AND NOTICED A SURGE SO I TURNED THE AIR OFF. AFTER GETTING THE CAR HOME I FILLED THE TANK AS IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE CAR BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS AT AN IDLE, AND THEN BEGAN TO SURGE WHILE DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CODES INDICATED IT WAS A MISFIRE, SO DID A TUNE UP (CHANGED SPARK PLUGS AND COILS) ONLY TO HAVE THE ISSUE GET WORSE. THE CAR IS NOW ALMOST STALLING AND SURGING HARD. CAR IS VERY SLOW TO ACCELERATE AND FEELS TO HAVE NO POWER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GET UP TO EVEN IN TOWN SPEEDS(25-30MPH) CAR IS UNDRIVABLE SAFELY AT THIS POINT AND I HAVE NOT EVEN OWNED 2 MONTHS. SURGING HAPPENS AT IDLE, LOW SPEEDS, FREEWAY SPEEDS, AND SURGES VIOLENTLY WHEN TRYING...
THE TRANSMISSION DON'T WORK LIKE THOUSANDS OF FORD FREE STYLE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS HARD TO FIND AND VERY EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THEY DON'T WORK !!!
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS UNRESPONSIVE AND THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY AT FIRST, THEN UNPREDICTABLY LUNGE FORWARD AT HIGHER SPEEDS. OCCASIONALLY THE PEDAL WILL IMMEDIATELY RESPOND WITH RAPID ACCELERATION WHEN LIGHTLY TOUCHED, CAUSING THE TIRES TO SPIN OUT WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. ALTERING THE WAY PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR HAS NO EFFECT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 3 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS, AND ONLY RECENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD TROUBLE IDLING DID A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND LIGHTLY DRIVEN.

THE WRENCH ON LEFT SIDE OF DASHBOARD COMES ON AND WHEN I SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR FROM DRIVE TO PARK TRANSMISSION JERKS. HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT BUT NEVER FIND ANYTHANG. DOES IT MORE WHEN IT'S HOT OUT OR WHEN ENGINE GETS WARM. LOVE MY FORD FREESTYLE JUST HARD TO TAKE TRIPS OUTA TOWN. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. FIRST, THE BATTERY LIGHT AND CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM WENT ON RIGHT AFTER THE FORD DEALER CHANGED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ELECTRICAL OUTPUT WAS FINE DESPITE THE WARNING LIGHT. SINCE THEN SEVERAL ALTERNATORS WERE CHANGED BY THE DEALER BUT THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. TODAY WHILE DRIVING (STREETS AND HIGHWAY) THE DASHBOARD (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER) WENT OFF AND ON AND ALL GAUGES WENT TO ZERO AND BACK ON AFTER A WHILE DURING DRIVING. TODAY (08/26/2015) WHILE EMERGING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC MY CAR REFUSED TO ACCELERATE. IT WOULD NEVER RISE ABOVE 20 MPH. THANKFULLY I WAS DOWN THE STREET FROM MY MECHANIC. AN OTHERWISE TWO MINUTE DRIVE TOOK FIFTEEN MINUTES OF MY ALLOWING THE CAR TO JUST COAST BECAUSE IT WOULD NEVER ACCELERATE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. I HAVE SEEN FORD HAS RECALLED 1.6 MILLION ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IN FORD ESCAPE, MERCURY MARINER, AND MERCURY MILAN VEHICLES WITH THE SAME 3.0L ENGINE AND SAME ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. ALL FORD HAS TO DO IS TO LIST THE FORD FREESTYLE AS ONE OF THESE RECALL VEHICLES FOR THE ETB TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE WRENCH LIGHT FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION, AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. WAS GOING HOME AFTER VISITING WITH A FRIEND AND ON WAY BACK WAS DRIVING NORMAL SPEED LIMIT ON I75 NORTH (65MPH) WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND AC STARTED BLOWING WARM, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT VERY POORLY. I HAD TO CAREFULLY GET OVER INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND DROVE ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE TO GET OFF AT THE VISIBLE OFF RAMP JUST A FEW YARDS AWAY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR UP TO A MCDONALDS AT THE TOP OF THE RAMP. I SHUT IT OFF AND DECIDED TO GO INSIDE AND EAT. ABOUT 25~30 MINUTES LATER, I DECIDED TO TRY AND START THE CAR AND SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN, THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP, EVERYTHING WORKED AS NORMAL, NO WARNING LIGHTS AT ALL. WE DROVE IT THE LAST 2 HOURS HOME WITHOUT ANY CONCERNS....

THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WITH FORD FREESTYLE HAS AFFECTED US TWICE WITH THE SAME CAR. THE INITIAL TIME IS MENTIONED ABOVE, AND THE PART WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY FORD. THE ISSUE HAS RESURFACED AND IT MAKES THE CAR VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT MASHING THE BRAKE DOWN AT IDLE BECAUSE THE CAR WILL LUNGE OR LURCH UNCONTROLLABLY.
