Defect: THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON SEAL WEAR CAUSING PUMP-MOTOR DETERIORATION.
Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, THE ABS FUNCTION COULD BE LOST AND REDUCED POWER ASSIST WOULD BE EXPERIENCED DURING VEHICLE BRAKING INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Defect: THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HIGH PRESSURE HOSE MAY LEAK OR DETACH AT ITS CRIMPED END FITTING RESULTING IN THE DISCHARGE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID.
Consequence: FLUID DISCHARGE EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE LOSS OF BOTH THEANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND HYDRAULIC ASSIST FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM, RESULTING ININCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF BRAKE LOCKUP AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES, WHICHCOULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: REPLACE THE ABS HIGH PRESSURE HOSE WITH A HOSE OF DIFFERENT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES EVENTUALLY RESPONDED AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE DUE TO THE PARTS NOT BEING AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULAR PUMP FAILED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED SINCE IT WAS EQUIPPED WITH A BOSCH ABS SYSTEM PUMP. THE RECALL WAS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE BENDIX ABS SYSTEM PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS OR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE ABS CONTROL UNIT FAILED CAUSING LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE. I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT THE PART INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED BY CHRYSLER, AND THAT CHRYSLER WAS TO FIX THE VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE. HOWEVER, I'VE BEEN TOLD BY CHRYSLER MY VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. LOOKING ONLINE I'VE FOUND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON MANY WEBSITES OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, SOME OF WHICH RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS, MANY PAID FOR REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS PART IS KNOWN TO FAIL TO AN EXTENT IT HAS BEEN RECALLED, BUT THEY HAVE MANAGED TO AVOID REPLACING A HUGE PERCENTAGE OF FAILED PARTS ON CARS BE EXCLUDING VINS FROM THE RECALL. MY CAR, AND HUNDREDS JUST LIKE IT HAVE A PART THAT IS KNOWN TO FAIL AND CAUSE INJURY, OR WORSE, AND THEY HAVE FOUND SOME LOOPHOLE THAT ALLOWS THEM TO PUT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AT RISK, OR COST THEM OUT OF POCKET FOR THEIR MISTAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTOMOTIVE STORE, WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS ADDRESS BY THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI LOCK). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 88,000.
