VEHICLE STALLING INTERMITTENTLY AT ALL SPEEDS. SOMETIMES LESS THAN 40 MPH, SOMETIMES AT FREEWAY SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 65 MPH. RESTARTS AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. EACH TIME IT STALLS THE TIME BEFORE IT RESTARTS INCREASES. *TR
WE HAVE A 2001 SILVERADO 3500 THAT SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF BALTIMORE TRAFFIC BACK IN 2006. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND PAID $644.33 TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT WAS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS IN SOME OF THE 2001'S. BUT GUESS WHAT, OURS IS NO ON THE LIST! I ASKED THE LADY "SO WHO DETERMINES WHICH OF THESE MODEL VINS GET TO BE ON THE RECALL AND WHICH ONES WILL THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR. OF COURSE SHE RESPONDED THAT SHE WAS SORRY FOR OUR INCONVENIENCE, BUT SHE COULD NOT HELP. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE OUR TRUCK ON THE RECALL TOO AND GET A REIMBURSEMENT? WE TRULY LOVE OUR TRUCK AND IT HAS TO GO IN FOR THE UBS BRAKE SYSTEM TOO, BUT WE FOUND OUT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT...
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER. AT TIMES IT WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT RESTART AT ALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND TO CONTACT NHTSA. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000. UPDATED 02/09/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 02/23/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE WOULD RESTART AFTER WAITING FIVE TO TEN SECONDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGIN COOLING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK UP 8.1LITER. VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THEN WILL RESTART AFTER SLIGHT COOL DOWN. HAPPENED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. FOUND RECALL NOTICE NO. 06083. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD MY VIN# DOESN'T MATCH. HOW DOES GM KNOWINGLY LET THIS HAPPEN JUST BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS BATCH OF TRUCKS WHEN IT HAS THE SAME DIAGNOSES AS THE OTHERS??? NO MORE GM FOR ME! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER FOUR OR FIVE ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN TEN TIMES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE WAS PRODUCED. THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED HIM OF A RECALL FOR HIS MODEL VEHICLE WITH IDENTICAL FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNABLE TO BE FOUND IN THE NHTSA DATABASE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,148. UPDATED 07/02/09. *LJ

SOMETIMES IT WILL RESTART IMMEDIATELY, BUT OTHER TIMES IT TAKES LONGER TO RESTART. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL COMPLETELY, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET C3500HD. WHILE IDLING OR DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WAS ALSO A LOSS OF BRAKES AND STEERING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AFTER TWO MINUTES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 210,848.
WHILE DRIVING, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE TRUCK SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY. NO POWER BRAKES NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER ANYTHING. AFTER 5 TO 10 SECONDS TRUCK STARTS BACK UP ON ITS OWN, SOMETIMES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN HAULING A HEAVY LOAD. THIS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, WAS INTERMITTENT AND VARIED IN FREQUENCY. I CHANGED CRANK SENSOR AND PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED. GM DEALERSHIPS WHERE NOT VERY HELPFUL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT 30MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO RESTART. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CPS NEEDED REPLACING.
