TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVERY TWO YEARS, THE PITTMAN ARM WOULD PREMATURELY FRACTURE. THE PART HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN THREE TIMES. THE PART HAD TO BE REPLACED A FOURTH TIME BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE OEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED 16 TSBS ON THE STEERING, THREE RECALLS ON THE STEERING, AND 27 TSBS ON THE SUSPENSION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I COULD FEEL A CLUNKING, AS THOUGH THE LINKAGE WAS VERY LOOSE. I TALKED WITH THE CHEVY DEALER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE SYMPTOM AND IT WAS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED WHEN THE PART BECOMES AVAILABLE. IN 2006, THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE RECENTLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. I HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, THEY SAY ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

THE MANAGER AGREED TO REPLACE THE CORRODED POWER STEERING TANK AND REPAIR THE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY DO NOT COVER ANY CORROSION UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY DUE TO THE ENVIRONMENT. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT APPLY TO CORROSION FAILURES WHERE THE RESIDENCE WAS CLOSE TO A BEACH WITH EXPOSURE OF SALT IN THE AIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000....
