This vehicle is an immaculate condition and the frame is completely rusted out of this. How can they not be a recall?
Unknown. I doubt this will qualify but it seems to be a very common issue so I feel it is worth bringing attention to. I recently bought a truck from a state action that was a prior police vehicle as stated by the title. Once I purchased it and drove it home I was inspecting it and found a rust spot on the frame. As I cleaned dirt and debris off of it I discovered that the frame from just before the drivers side door all the way to where it bends up at the gas tank was completely rotted out. Specifically the bottom of the frame is fully gone. Doing research into repairs it seems that this generation and brand of vehicle had this problem seemingly universally. Which leads me to think it may have been a defect in manufacturing. Due to the bottom rusting out it’s hard to...
This is the 3rd year in a row that i have to have the frame welded due to corrosion. I finally did an internet search and found this to be a severe problem for owners of Chevy Silverados. In my opinion, a truck frame should last longer than 100K miles. Why did the U.S. hold Toyota accountable when their truck frames rotted out a few years ago, but won't hold GM to the same standard? The dealership said there is nothing they can do about it, i'm hoping out government can. There are too many of these trucks driving around with frames on the verge of cracking or rear shocks falling off. Thank you
The frame is rusted and flaking to pieces. Have replaced tailgate latches twice due to rust.
This GM vehicle presents a safety risk to the public. The frame of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has prematutely rusted and corroded. GM fully understands and acknowledges this public safety risk only through a "Technical Service Bullitin" (service bulletin number 19-NA-255) which states that GM is aware of the lack of application of protective coating on this year and model. This "technical" concern urgently must be upgraded to a recall. The truck in its entirety and the public are at risk. The premature frame corrosion caused by the failure to apply protective coating which GM acknowledges, can, and presumably has, result in DEATH. The structural integrity of the entire vehicle should not be categorized as a safety bulletin. An incident due to faulty manufacturing resulting in death, is by definition a recall. Above mentioned vehicle does not meet minimum safety standards or poses an unreasonable safety risk due to...
FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED THROUGH. NEEDS TO REPLACED, TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT. WITH LESS THE 100,000 MILES ON IT.
This vehicle has a frame that is rusted far beyond what you would normally expect. The same problem is listed in other complaints here and elsewhere online. The passenger side running board fell off because the frame it was attached to was so badly rusted.
On August 24, 2023 I took my 2011 Silverado WT extended cab 4X4 to a local independent service facility for a required annual safety inspection. It has failed an annual vehicle safety inspection due to frame rust through. I am scheduled with the repair shop to repair this new rust section September 12, 2023. This is the second year in a row that it has failed due to frame rust through after having been repaired last year. The truck has 141,846 mile on it and should not be experiencing a frame issue requiring welding repairs. If I lived in a state that did not require annual safety inspections this could easily become a major safety hazard resulting in a crash with severe personal injury or death. GM should be notified and held accountable to provide necessary repairs and or compensation very similar to the Toyota Tacoma frame recall a few...
Truck has excessive rust and holes on frame, back wheel wells completely rotted out and bed is completely rusted out. Had to get covers for the wheel wells because it failed inspection due to the fact if someone bumped it they could be cut by the jagged edges. Have had over $6000 worth of frame work done in approximately 2021 and needs more. I will find receipts and send pictures. Chevy needs to be held responsible. Currently at dealer for airbag recall and inspection. There is no way it will pass. Huge safety issue and this is certainly not the only truck like this. How can Chevrolet get away with this? Toyota did right by frame issues. Why is Chevrolet not being held responsible? I've been to Mavis, Pocono Metal Craft and numerous other garages who all say the truck is so rusted it's worthless. When brought to the dealer...
GM has a defective wax coating on the vehicle frames of nearly a dozen models of their vehicles, spanning at least 2011-19, which they knew can lead to premature rust and corrosion, causing the frames to fail much earlier than expected. The evidence I have gathered includes the detailed internal service bulletin where GM describes the defect, as well as texts and e-mails with GM, and a transcript of my conversation with the Chevrolet dealership. All of which suggests GM knew about this defect and is actively working to keep it from being communicated to owners, some of which would still be covered by the six-year frame warranty. All that evidence is included as part of the attached pdf document. In it's bulletin GM instructs dealers to fix this issue under warranty only if customers brought it up to the dealer, and then, only if it was brought up during...
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. The contact stated that the dashboard was also cracked. There was a dollar-sized hole in the dashboard. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they informed the contact there was a hairline fracture on the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The air bag was previously replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
Can poke through frame with a screw driver- frame is severely compromised. Afraid truck will buckle or if hit lightly will collapse. Truck has been well maintained with only 100,000 miles. Power train and parts all in excellent condition.
Rust through the frame. It appears that this is directly related to TSB PI0564K. The rust proofing failure of the vehicle has lead to rust causing holes in the frame of the truck. I have followed the Owners Manuel regarding cleaning of the frame during winter time. There is additional rust on the body rocker panels that are not structural. Repairs will be extensive in scope and cost.
Frame is rusted out with only 102,000 original miles. Drivers side frame- can poke holes with a hand held screw driver going completely through frame. Frame is compromised. Personal note- mechanic by profession (18 years experience) in household has NEVER seen 10 year old vehicle no matter the care with rust this bad. This is a safety risk if an accident were to happen.
Frame is completely rusted on both sides, big holes. I use the truck for light duty use not a daily driver. Bought used with some known rust on the wheel wells. Had no idea rust would be this bad on frame. Have only had the truck for 3 years. Still owe on it and it seems unfit to drive.
My brother was putting a trailer onto my hitch and noticed that it was unstable. The factory hitch was rusted out thru the metal. Him being a mechanic he decided to put the truck up on the rack. My FRAME IS RUSTED COMPLETELY THRU!!! BECAUSE they did not rust proof it right to start. I could have been killed along with my GRANDSON whom I have custody of. No one knew my truck frame was rusted out. It's a beautifully kept truck in great condition. I was not aware of this issue of them not recalling a rustproofing error!!!! Omg. A 20k truck is worthless now. Who has to die to fix this!! There is no reason a truck frame should rust through in 10 years!!
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact noticed that the front and rear driver’s side floor mat was wet. In addition, the entire rear seats were also wet. The contact stated that water was entering the vehicle. The contact contacted the dealer and was informed to take the vehicle in to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. The VIN was not provided.

WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT ~45 MPH,I STRUCK A DEER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BUT DID NOT COME OUT OF THE CENTER STEERING. AIR BAG DUST WAS COMING OUT OF THE BACK OF THE STEERING WHEEL, NO AIR BAG. I WAS VERY CONFUSED. THE FRONT BUMPER WAS PUSHED IN ~2.5 INCHES. I AM FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT HIT ANOTHER CAR, SINCE THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTIONED ON DEPLOYMENT.
A CRACKED HAS FORMED IN THE DASHBOARD ABOVE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE CRACK JUST APPEARED.

BATTERY DIED DUE TO HEADLIGHTS COMING ON WHILE CAR WAS PARKED. LIGHTS CAN NOT BE SHUT OFF FROM SWITCH, OPENING THE HOOD I DETECTED ELECTRICAL SMELL. I REMOVED THE FUSE BOX COVER AND NOTICED WATER COLLECTING AND STAINS. I PULLED SEVERAL FUSES AND FOUND THREE THAT MELTED. ALL THIS HAPPENED AFTER A ICE STORM FOLLOWED BY A WARMING UP AND MELTING TREND THE WATER COLLECTED ON THE FENDER BRACE AND LEAKED INTO UNDER HOOD FUSE BLOCK. I REPLACED THE FUSE BLOCK AND ALL IS OK. THOUGH FUSES WERE MELTED APART THEY STILL MADE CONTACT AND EASILY COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE. I DRILLED HOLES INTO FENDER BRACES AND REDIRECTED THE WATER.
MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE TOP CONTROL ARM BROKE WHEN I HIT A POLE ON THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. IT SNAPPED OFF AT THE BALL. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND SIDE SWIPED A POLE AT ABOUT 5 MPH. SHOULD NOT HAVE SNAPPED A PART IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK! THERE IS A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF CORROSION UNDER MY TRUCK. EVEN BEHIND THE REAR TAIL LIGHT WHICH SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN EXPOSED, THERE'S RUST. THIS TRUCK HAS MORE RUST THAT TRUCKS THAT ARE 30 YEARS OLD.
TAKATA AIRBAG, STILL NO RESOLUTION FOR THIS BY GM. THE DASH ON THE PICK UP ALSO HAVE THE SAME CRACKS THAT THOUSANDS OF OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND ACROSS THE DRIVER SIDE AS WELL. I HAVE REPAIRED IT MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT ONLY TO CRACK IN NEW PLACES. IT BEGAN CRACKING WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT.
TAKATA RECALL- MY VEHICLES STATUS IS STILL INCOMPLETE! NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED AND IT HAS ALMOST BEEN TWO YEARS SINCE THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED! I DEMAND ANSWERS! ALSO THE DASH IS CRACKED ON MY TRUCK IN THE VERY SAME PLACE IT'S CRACKING ON THOUSANDS OF OTHER TRUCKS. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS THE PLASTIC CAN INJURE SOMEONE!
THE DASH BOARD CRACKED IN SEPTEMBER 2017 IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. CRACK IS NOW ABOUT 4 INCHES LONG
LARGE CRACK ON UPPER LEFT HAND SIDE OF PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DASHBOARD. TRUCK USED ON HARD SURFACE ROADS. TRUCK IS PARKED IN GARAGE. CRACK SHOWED UP WITHOUT MALICE. CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBLE DASHBOARD SHATTERING IF AND WHEN AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION CAUSING HARM TO DRIVER/PASSENGERS.
CRACKED DASH OVER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND SIDE AIR VENT AND AIR BAG AND GLOVE BOX.
MY DASHBOARD STARTED TO CRACK AND THEN A BIG CHUNK FELL OUT OF IT.
DASHBOARD CRACK AT THE TOP LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE AIR BAG. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT.
THE DASH IS CRACKING JUST LIKE ALL THE COMPLAINTS ONLINE. CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES INCLUDING AROUND AIRBAG.
I BOUGHT MY 2011 SILVERADO 1500 WITH 8,000 MILES ON IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP OCT 2012. WHILE UNDER A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY MY DASH BUSTED AT THE AIR BAG. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER THE TRUCK HAD AROUND 16,000 - 18,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD THE DASH WAS MADE THAT WAY SO NO CLAIM WAS MADE. SINCE THEN MY DASH HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE AND WORSE. NOW THAT ITS NO LONGER UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THEY ADMIT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST! I'M AM SO FED UP WITH GM'S PRODUCT. I HAVE SPENT THE PAST 4 YEARS TRYING TO GET MY DASH REPLACED AT THEIR COST. ITS CLEARLY NOTHING I DID WRONG TO CAUSE IT. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS ON COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM.. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL LAWSUITS THAT'S BEEN TAKING OUT ON THEM FOR THIS ISSUE. "IF I...
DASH HAS LARGE CRACK DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF STEERING WHEEL AND TWO SMALLER CRACKS ON EACH SIDE OF AIR BAG ON PASSENGER SIDE OF DASH.IT APPEARS TO HAVE HAPPENED QUICKLY AS I NOTICED IT WHEN WIPING DOWN DASH AND HAD NOT NOTICED IT LAST TIME I CLEANED.
THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, TOP LEFT CORNER WHERE THE AIRBAG SITS IS CRACKED!
THE DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK AT THE CORNER OF THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. NORMALLY I WOULDN'T THINK THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE BUT I PERSONALLY KNOW OF AT LEAST THREE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT CRACK AT THE SAME EXACT LOCATION ON THEIR DASHBOARD. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE 2007-2011 SILVERADO AND TAHOE VEHICLES FROM CHEVROLET.
DASH CRACKS AT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS THIS A PROBLEM IF THE BAG WENT OFF WILL THE BROKEN PIECE OF DASH BOARD GO WITH IT. ALSO LOOSE BODY SIDE MOLDINGS HAD REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AND CAME OFF AGAIN LUCKILY IT DIDN'T COME OFF WHILE DRIVING.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2011 CHEVY SILVERADO LTZ IS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE PLACES, INCLUDING OVER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND AT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG.
TO YOUR COMPANY OFFERING TO PUT A USED ENGINE IN A USED VEHICLE. THEN PURCHASING A 2011 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500, AND HAVING NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. YOU HAD ASKED ME TO GIVE YOUR DEALERSHIP A SECOND CHANCE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WITH THE AMOUNT OF UNPROFESSIONAL DEMEANOR THAT I EXPERIENCED PRIOR I DECIDED TO GIVE YOUR COMPANY A SECOND CHANCE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM.
2011 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500. THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH BOARD IS CRACKED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 40000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE DASH CRACKED. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WITH NO LUCK TO GET THEM TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM. IN THE EVENT THE AIR BAG DEPLOYING PIECES OF THE DASH WILL COME APART AND GO FLYING EVERWHERE!!
THIS IS THE SECOND DASH BOARD THAT HAS CRACKED BY THE AIR BAG AND ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FIRST WAS COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND NOW ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WORRY THAT HAVING A DASH THAT IS COMING A PART WILL BLOW APART IF THE AIR BAG GOES OFF AFTER ALL THE AIRBAG COVER IS ALSO THE SAME PLASTIC..THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND GM NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF IT. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU GET INTO A ACCIDENT AND THE DASH COME A PART.
