2008 CHEVROLET COBALT Fuelpropulsion System Problems

The fuel line is leaking fuel on the drivers side near the passenger door. The leak is to the point where it is pooling under the door on the ground.

The gas lines rusted out and the fuel pump is pooring gas out of it. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago smelled gas hit u set the car it was pouring out. I was going to fix it my self then while looking up the parts I ran across the fact they recalled both parts but not for my vin . What can I do. I'm gonna catch on fire

Gas Line corroded near Driver rear wheel due to design of gas line bracket/shield. A bit of research finds that this is not an uncommon occurence and is solely based on the poor design of the shield. Gas leaks on driveway and smell of raw gasoline promoted the finding of this issue. It required complete replacement of gasl line and a total of over $1,000 in total cost.

Vehicle has a fuel leak from rear of vehicle. Smells of fuel in cabin. Found shields wet with fuel. Seems there should be some recall on this. This is the 2nd cobalt I've owned with the same issue.

I have a major fuel leak in a fuel line close to the drivers side rear wheel . It's so bad that it was leaving a line of gas on the road as I drove. It smelled of gas a few days prior but I was unable to tell where it originated from.

On July 17,2018 I saw my 2008 Chevy Cobalt was leaking fuel in my driveway around the driver's side rear tire. I had it towed to my in-town mechanic, as I have Triple A. Paid $613.37 to replace the fuel line. On August 15th, 2022 same exact problem on my 2010 Cobalt. Another $553 to replace the fuel line. Chevrolet sent out a very confusing POSSIBLE recall letter in March 2013. But never officially told owners they would fix the problem with a recall letter. There have been many complaints on this problem on 2005-2010 Cobalts.

The fuel lines on this 2008 cobalt have rusted out and leaving a visible fuel leak puddle after parking. The leak occurs in front of the driver side rear wheel. This area has a heat shield over the fuel line underneath which traps moisture and road salt. This leak has caused me to park my vehicle outside as a safety precaution and not drive it. The leak is near the exhaust which is a large safety risk in my opinion. I am taking to the dealer to have them confirm and quote out repair cost.

I have to replace my fuel lines due to them rusting out over the left rear wheel well. I noticed a distinct smell of gas for a couple of rides to or from work. After a couple of rides, the smell was very strong and I happened to notice the gas dripping down under the car upon inspection. It was taken to a auto repair shop where I was told that this was a serious hazard and the gas lines would have to be replaced costing me $650. The mechanic said that the lines has rusted causing the leak. He also mentioned that this was a common problem with the 2008 chevy cobalt.

The fuel line rusted through and were leaking gas right next to the exhaust pipe! This should not happen!!! I’ve never had to replace fuel lines due to rust on any vehicle I’ve ever owned!!! Inferior metal and or poor design had to contribute to this! Thank God the car didn’t start on fire or blow up. My friend has a 2009 Cobalt and had the same problem!!! It cost me $1478.79 to repair this defect!! No warning other than the terrible gasoline odor!!! Please do something about this before someone is killed!!!

There is a fuel leak with dripping towards the back of the car. I noticed that there is a current NHTSA investigation into such leaks so wanted to let you know of another example.

The fuel system has developed a small leak, for now near the left rear tire. I cannot pinpoint the exact location of the leak due to the heat shielding around the lines. My concern is the proximity of the fuel leak to the exhaust system and potential fire hazard. A dealer has not looked at my car, however I have performed maintenance on enough vehicles and aircraft to know when there is a fuel leak. There are no warning lights associated for the leak thus far, there is a tendency for the the vehicle to need to prime itself by cranking in the morning or in cold temperatures.

Began smelling gas while i was driving, took to mechanic to get checked. fuel line was cracked at the fuel pump. had to replace whole assembly.

This is additional information in regards to my first reported complaint of my fuel lines leaking. Mechanic stated my car was definitely unsafe and surprisingly my car didn't catch fire. Used a full tank of gas just driving 15 miles. Lost thar much fuel due to leak.

My 08 Chevy Cobalt has major fuel leak leaving puddles by left rear wheel. Very strong smell odor, losing more gas than putting in. I lost 5 gallons of gas in a 3 mile radius. Took to a repair shop and mechanic said the fuel lines are rusted from one end to the other and Chevy(GM) does not make fuel lines for a repair. At risk for car blowing up.

Fuel line near rear left (driver side) is leaking where held to vehicle. Noticed smell of fuel 8/16/21 then saw fresh fuel puddle 8/17. This can be inspected if need be It is a fuel leak which is very dangerous to anyone in or near the car. No one has inspected the vehicle No warning lights indicating there a problem

Fuel line rusted through above the exhaust system in front of left rear tire. Noticed a puddle of fuel on the ground and dripping. Replacing the lines myself. Seems like a safety issue to me, and should be recalled.

The fuel Line is spraying gas out of it. These issues were up for recall in 2012 but not now..

Puddles of fuel leaking from car. Pungent fuel smell on back seats and coming through vents. Clothes are smelling like gasoline when I step out of the car. Doesn't crank right away. 100s maybe even thousands of people have had the same problem with this car

I NOTICED A FUEL LEAK NEAR THE LEFT SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE. I'VE READ THAT THIS IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION DUE TO THE FUEL LINES LEAKING WHERE THE BLOCK THAT HOLDS THE FUEL LINES TO THE BODY OF THE CAR NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL. I JUST WANT TO REPORT IT SO I CAN ADD MY CAR TO THE OPEN INVESTIGATION GOING ON CURRENTLY. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO A GM DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRED AS IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD START A FIRE.

FUEL LINE HAS RUSTED CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK. NEED TO REPLACE TOTAL LINES.

FUEL LINE LEAK DRIVER SIDE REAR OF VEHICLE. CAUSED BY HEAT SLEEVES PUT OVER THE LINE BY THE MANUFACTURER CAUSING WATER TO GET TRAPPED INSIDE ROTTING OUT THE FUEL LINE. I WAS LUCKY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN CAR WAS AT 210 OPERATING TEMPERATURE OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN BURNED UP AT 1200 DEGREES.

I HAVE A FUEL LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE, IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE. THIS LEAK IS FROM THE FUEL LINES AROUND THE HEAT SHIELD. IT APPEARS THE FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED. I TRIED TO GET A PRICE QUOTE ON PARTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY REQUIRED ME TO TAKE IN IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS, BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. AFTER $100 THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T COVERED AND FINALLY QUOTED ME ON THE REPAIR, OVER $1,000. NOT ONLY DO I FEEL THE PARTS WERE FAULTY, I FEEL LIKE I WAS SCAMMED OUT OF AN ADDITIONAL $100 TO CONFIRM WHAT I ALREADY KNEW. THE VEHICLE LEAKS WHEN STATIONARY, IF YOU TURN THE KEY OFF THE FUEL LINES WILL DRAIN ONTO THE GROUND UNTIL THE LINES EMPTY. STARTING THE VEHICLE TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE PUMP...

I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING PUMP RECALL FIXED TWICE NOW ON MY CAR. LAST TIME WAS OCTOBER OF 2020, AND FINALLY IN JANUARY OF 2021 IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. NORMALLY I CAN DRIVE IT TO WHEREVER WITHOUT TOO MUCH ISSUE, BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE YESTERDAY. I STARTED MY CAR BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK, GOT IN TO LEAVE AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT, AS IT IS MY ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION, AND DID NOT GET FAR. IT JERKED AROUND VIOLENTLY, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THEN BECAME HARD TO STEER. AFTER I LET IT SIT ALL DAY AND TRIED AGAIN, IT STILL WAS ACTING UP AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE PRESSURE, EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT EVEN START AFTER THAT TRY. I AM AT A LOSS AND AM FURIOUS AS THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AFTER BEING FIXED TWICE.

GASOLINE IS LEAKING FROM THE GAS TANK.

LAST OCTOBER 2020, WHEN ENTERING THE CAR, I SMELLED A VERY STRONG GASOLINE ODOR INSIDE, AND THEN NOTICED UNDERNEATH, BADLY LEAKY FUEL LINES TOWARD THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL. A LARGE POOL OF GASOLINE WAS ALSO NOTICED ON THE PAVEMENT. I AM INCLUDING A PHOTO OF THE CORRODED FUEL LINE AS FILE ATTACHMENT.

THE GASOLINE LINE NEAR THE REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE RUSTED AND BEGAN TO SPILL GASOLINE

I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A GAS SMELL FOR A FEW WEEKS AND WITH FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THAT GAS WAS LEAKING NEAR THE CLIP THAT HOLDS THE LINES UP BY THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. MY MECHANIC NOTICED THAT WHEN HE CUT BACK THE HEAT SHIELD THAT WAS A RUSTED OUT HOLE CAUSING THE LEAK. BOTH THE FUEL AND THE RETURN LINE HAVE RUSTED AND ARE LEAKING.

THERE IS A GAS LEAK. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS AND SHOULD BE ON A RECALL L IU ST. THE LIST OF CONSUMERS AFFECTED IS A PRETTY LONG LIST

I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR WHILE PARKED. I NOTICED A FEW DROPS OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND UNDER MY CAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY SAID IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE. IT IS A LEAK IN THE FUEL LINE CAUSED BY A FAULTY DESIGN WHERE A HEAT SHIELD IS PRONE TO COLLECT SALT, DIRT, ETC. AT THE METAL LINE WHICH CAUSES CORROSION.

HAVE BEEN SMELLING GAS FOR 6 MONTHS NOW...RIGHT AFTER SHUTOFF IN DRIVEWAY.....DRIVING TO A PARK TODAY ABOUT 6 PM...ANOTHER DRIVER PULLED UP TO MY SIDE, AND SAID I WAS LEAKING GAS OR SOMETHING...WAS BEHIND ME AT STOP LIGHT ...GOT TO THE PARK AND STOPPED CAR..AUTISTIC CHILD IN BACK SEAT WITH LITTLE DOG VERY SCARED.......SENT HER ACROSS THE PARK TO A BENCH TO SIT.....LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, AND STRONG STEADY GAS DRIP IN FRONT OF DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL.. SEVERAL FUEL LINES THAT WERE SIDE BY SIDE...CLOSE TO MUFFLER...FUEL DEFINITELY DRIPPING FROM THEM......ROLLED CAR FOWARD AHEAD OF SPILL, AND HEADED HOME....LOOKED WHERE WE USUALLY PARK IN DRIVEWAY AND SAW AN 18 INCH ROUND GAS STAIN ON ASPHALT......NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE TODAY......USED CAR ON THE 3RD TO PICK UP FOOD......STAIN FROM SEPT 3RD... WAS A MECHANIC BACK IN THE 70`S AND 80`S....AND FIGURED SINCE THE TANK DIDN`T EMPTY.....THE LEAK MUST STOP AFTER...

FUEL IS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH A BLACK PLASTIC PART HOLDING THE FUEL LINE IN PLACE IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I AM NOT SURE HOW MUCH LEAKS, BUT AFTER DRIVING IT STARTS DRIPPING.

FUEL LINE LEAK, DRIVERS SIDE REAR. IN FRONT OF TIRE. NOTICED STRONG ODOR OF GAS, LOOKED UNDER CAR AFTER I TURNED IT OFF. SAW GAS RUNNING DOWN ONTO PAVEMENT.

STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE DETECTED AND GASOLINE IS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE 21 AND ONE HALF INCHES FORWARD OF THE CENTER LINE OF DRIVER SIDE OR LEFT REAR TIRE.THIS CONDITION LEAVING PADDLE OF GASOLINE AND WAS FOUND WITH VEHICLE AT STATIONARY POSITION.

I HAVE NOTICED A STRONG GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR RIGHT AFTER I PARKED MY CAR. AND DISCOVERED GAS LEAKING THROUGH THE GAS LINES VERY FAST. I'VE NOTICED THAT MANY CHEVY COBALT CARS ENCOUNTER THIS ISSUE WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM I HAVE. I AM SURPRISED IT HAS NOT BEEN CALLED FOR RECALL

KEEP GETTING THE SMELL OF FUEL IN AND OUTSIDE OF CAR.WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE

WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING OR WHILE THE FUEL SYSTEM IS STILL UNDER PRESSURE, FOR EXAMPLE AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVEN THERE IS A STEADY FUEL LEAK IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. I HAVE PARKED THE CAR ONLY TO HAVE LOST 1/4 OF A TANK OF GASOLINE TO THE LEAK. THERE IS A VERY VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE THAT PERMEATES THE CAR. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL HESITATE TO START, THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO CRANK AFTER I RELEASE THE KEY AND THEN IT FINALLY CATCHES AND STARTS .I UNDERSTAND THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN ONLY CERTAIN STATES.

SEVER FUEL LEAK AT DRIVERS SIDE REAR ABOVE EXHAUST WHEN RUNNING. A STEEL LINE IS LEAKING AT A PLASTIC MOUNTING CLIP DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION.

FUEL LEAKING UNDERNEATH CAR. I FILLED THE TANK FULLY AND DROVE TO WORK 5 MILES. AFTERWORK I GET IN CAR AND AS I GOT CLOSER THE ODOR OF RAW GASOLINE FUMES WERE NOTICED. I DROVE HOME PARKING ON DIRT NO LEAKS SEEN NEXT DAY AS I'M GOING TO WORK, I LOOK AT THE GAS GAUGE TO SEE NEARLY A 1/4 OF TANK IS GONE. I GET TO WORK, LET THE CAR SIT FOR 2 HOURS. WHEN LOOKING UNDERNEATH THE CAR, I HAD NOTICED A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE UNDER THE CAR WITH AGAIN A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. CAR IS NOT DRIVEN IN THE WINTER AND IS KEPT IN GARAGE DURING WINTER SEASONS
