TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 BMW S 1000 R. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL TICKING SOUND AND FELT AS IF IT WOULD HESITATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE, BUT WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BELL WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE ENGINE'S ROCKER ARM IN THE CRANKSHAFT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.
#10644660 | STRUCTURE:BODY | | 3,200 miles
LEFT FAIRING IS LOOSE - LOOKS AS IF ATTACHMENT PARTS HAVE FALLEN OFF. *TR
#10637398 | STRUCTURE:BODY | | 405 miles
AFTER PULLING ON TO MAJOR HIGHWAY FROM SECONDARY ROAD, ACCELERATED AND AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, I FELT LIKE WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A BIRD HIT MY LEFT SHIN AND FOOT. AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT STILL REMAINED. I LOOKED DOWN AND THE LEFT FAIRING HAD CAME LOOSE FROM MOTORCYCLE. THE FAIRING WAS THEN CAUGHT BY THE WIND AND BLOWN DOWN UNDER MY FOOT PEG AND PINNING MY FOOT SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE FROM GEAR SHIFTER. I PULLED OFF HIGHWAY. DISMOUNTED MOTORCYCLE, MANIPULATED BIKE FAIRING BACK TO ORIGINAL POSITION AS BEST I COULD. SLOWLY LIMPED BIKE BACK TO MY GARAGE. UPON INSPECTION, FOUND THAT BOTH SIDES OF FAIRING HAD POPPED LOOSE DUE TO RUBBER GROMMETS NOT BEING ATTACHED SECURELY. RADIATOR CAP HAD KEPT RIGHT SIDE FOM BLOWING LOOSE. I CONTACTED BMW, AS OF YET, MY BIKE HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THERE ARE MANY OTHER CASES OF THE SAME INCIDENT. BMW HAS ISSUED A REPAIR, BUT NO OFFICIAL RECALL. NO ONE HAS EVEN CONTACTED ME CONCERNING MY BIKE FROM BMW. *TR
#10621715 | STRUCTURE:BODY | | 1,600 miles
AS I WAS RIDING ON A HIGHWAY THE LEFT SIDE FAIRING OF THE MOTORCYCLE RIPPED OFF FROM THE WIND BLAST. I GOT LUCKY THAT IT WAS HOLDING ON THE LAST VERY LOWER SCREW. THAT SAVED ME FROM LOOSING CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE. WHAT IF IT FELL OFF AND WENT UNDER MY REAR TIRE? I DON'T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED. THE FRONT PART OF THE FAIRING IS GLUED TO THE RADIATOR FRAME. THERE IS NO METAL FRAME OR SCREW. IT'S JUST PLASTIC TO PLASTIC GLUED. (IF YOU NEED PICTURES, I CAN SEND THEM TO YOU TO ASSIST YOU IN YOUR INVESTIGATION) I THINK THAT THIS IS A POOR DESIGN AND IT'S A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. SOMEONE MAY GET HURT OR DIE BECAUSE OF THAT. I HOPE YOU GET THAT PROBLEM SERIOUS AND MAKE BMW DO A RECALL AND FIX THAT PROBLEM ACCORDING TO ALL SAFETY STANDARDS. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. *TR
