Bulletin Summary
Some 2023-2024 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit various diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the steering angle sensor. Prior to any diagnosis, determine if the vehicle is equipped with an electronic steering actuator (ESA), also referred to as the power steering control module (PSCM), so appropriate pinpoint tests are followed. The ESA is located on the steering shaft and can be seen through the left fender opening or under the hood near the driver's side frame rail. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 211-02 for images as needed. For vehicles equipped with an ESA, the steering angle sensor is integrated into the ESA. For vehicles not equipped with ESA, the steering angle sensor is integrated into the steering column control module, behind the clockspring. The pinpoint tests for the steering angle sensor in the WSM will specify what test or steps to follow based on presence of ESA. Failure to follow the proper pinpoint test may lead to improper diagnosis and repair.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
