Bulletin Summary
Daimler Trucks North America has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Freightliner chassis (NHTSA #: 16V809). In response, Newmar has filed recall NHTSA #: 16V826 and TC #: 2016-559. On the affected motorhomes, a rubber-coated braided power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. The power steering hose may rub against the stud on the starter motor, which may cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc may increase the risk of fire or may require additional steering effort, increasing the risk of a crash.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
