Bulletin Summary
Some McNeilus concrete mixers have an optional operator presence ball valve on the optional washout system for the concrete mixer drum. The optional operator presence feature ensures if the operator takes his hand off the valve, the water for the washout system will shut off. This bulletin advises customers to verify that an adjusting nut and a jam nut should be present on the ball valve. If neither nut is present or if only one nut is present and is loose, there can be insufficient spring tension on the operator presence handle. This can lead to the valve opening and water being added to the drum without the driver knowing. Adding water unintentionally could increase the viscosity of the concrete such that the concrete doesn't meet the specifications of the desired concrete mixture. This bulletin applies to mixer trucks built between 01/01/2017 to 10/13/2017.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
