Bulletin Summary
The DME sends at each engine start the downtime duration since the last time the engine was in use as a signal to decide between cold or warm (normal) start mode. Note: During a warm (normal) start, the catalyzer is not pre-heated due to the short engine downtime. Due to a programming error, the calculated engine downtime duration is always 0 minutes. Therefore, the engine will always start in warm (normal) start mode (independently of the real engine downtime duration). In the case where the cold start mode would be required the bike used warm (normal) start mode instead, resulting in a lack of the catalytic converter pre-heating, leading to increased emissions during the warm-up period of the engine.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
