Bulletin Summary
16186 - Emission Recall. General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Recall on certain vehicles equipped with a 1.8L engine. On some vehicles, cracking of ceramic components internal to the catalytic converter may occur as a result of higher than anticipated exhaust temperatures. If this occurs, the catalytic converter low efficiency diagnostic will set and the malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate. Dealers are to reprogram the engine control module with calibrations that prevent higher than expected exhaust temperatures.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
