Bulletin Summary
Customer statement / workshop findings: Unable to remove Accessory valve caps, Figure 1 shows an example of the caps. Technical background: We have observed instances where the caps have been difficult to remove once fitted, the issue is caused by corrosion. The valve stem itself is made from aluminium and the accessory valve caps are chromium plated brass, it is possible under certain environmental conditions, particularly winter road salt, for corrosion to take place between these dissimilar metals. Measure: The solution is to apply a thin smear of silicon-based grease, such as Dow Corning high vacuum grease, to the external threads of the valve stem prior to fitting the accessory valve cap. Grease should be applied any time the cap is removed and grease is not evident
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
