Bulletin Summary
Concern: Fault P0299 stored in the DME Information: Fault P0299 is stored when the actual boost level deviates from the specified boost level for greater than 3 seconds. Anything that can cause incorrect boost levels will set this fault, such as leaks in the intake/intercooler system, leaks in the boost control system (i.e. vacuum lines to the diverter valves, pressure converter and vacuum reservoir). All possible fault causes outlined in Guided Fault Finding MUST be addressed. If all of the possible causes are ruled out, then program the DME with PIWIS II software version 15.500 or higher. Some diagnostic hints: Check the freeze frame data of the fault. If the fault occurred at: <2500rpm/<60% engine load, this is most likely a software issue >2500rpm/>60% engine load, this is most likely a hardware issue (i.e. vacuum leak in a boost control line, or disconnected boost hose)
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
