Bulletin Summary
Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign 13E-A01: Program Control Units (Tank Ventilation). Due to an error in the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) software, the fuel tank ventilation system does not function correctly to purge the active carbon canister of accumulated fuel vapor. As a result, this may lead to a fuel smell around the vehicle, especially in areas with high ambient temperatures. In order to remedy the situation, BMW is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign to reprogram the control units (DMEs) on all affected vehicles.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
