Defect Description

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019 IC Bus CE and RE school buses equipped with long stroke brake chambers and spring actuated parking brakes. The spring actuated parking brake may be improperly crimped to the long stroke service brake chamber, causing a service brake air leak and the possible separation of the spring brake chamber from the service brake section.

Safety Consequence

If there is an air leak or separation of the spring brake chamber, it can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake chamber assembly, free of charge. The recall began October 23, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 18513.
