The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the rear end of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who observed excessive corrosion on the rear subframe of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not safe to drive because the rear axle could become detached. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,000.
