NHTSA Complaint #11596495 — 2016 FORD FUSION

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to slow the vehicle, the temperature gauge began to indicate that the engine was overheating, after which the contact observed excessive smoke coming from the exhaust. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that coolant intrusion had damaged the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000.
