NHTSA Complaint #11589377 — 2015 GMC CANYON

I experienced the loss of power steering while driving. It was almost impossible to steer the vehicle while driving. I went on line and noticed a recall for my exact vehicle of the exact problem. The recall bulletin 15595A, was dated February 2016 and explained that the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly was to be replaced. However, apparently my VIN number was not listed. I went to the dealer and it was diagnosed with Code C0545(power steering problem). The dealer recommended the same repairs as the recall notice. The dealer showed no interest in contacting GM to see if this can be fixed by this recall. They claimed because of the year and mileage that they would not move forward with this. I contacted GM myself and explained the situation. I was told that GM would not cost assist with this problem. I find it odd that GM recognized this issue as a real safety hazard on the same make, year and model of my vehicle and refuses to assist in the repairs. The mileage and year has nothing to do with this problem. The problem was and is an existing problem with this particular vehicle. This issue is a sporadic issue and and started approximately [XXX] and continues. I feel this problem is an existing problem with all of these year, makes and models whether the VIN number was listed or not!! It's an accident waiting to happen!!
