The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact's husband heard a loud screeching sound coming from the engine compartment. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's husband restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle was driven to the destination. The contact stated that the failure had occurred intermittently during the past six months. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
