NHTSA Complaint #11578071 — 2010 FORD ESCAPE

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal clicking sound coming from the steering wheel, after which the contact became aware that the electric power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The power steering assist fault warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the electric power steering assist control module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
