Consumer Description
On 08/23/2023, the scooter (2016 BMW C650 Sport) had no signs of issue when I rode it to my work place in the morning. But when I went back home around 11:45AM, the scooter lost power after 100 ~ 200 feet from my work place. I immediately pulled over and turned off the engine. After that, I could not turn on the engine and there was only noise coming from the engine. On 08/24/2023, the local dealer (San Jose BMW Motorcycles) called me and said that the scooter's engine is broken due to a broken piece from timing-chain tensioner damaging the valve and the piston of the engine. There is a recall for timing-chain tensioner (Recall 14V-264) on 2014 for 2012-2014 C600 Sport and C650 GT. From my case, it looks like BMW did not fix the timing-chain tensioner issue. It still happened to my scooter. Luckily I am not on the highway. After talk to BMW, they refused to take full responsibility. I would like NHTSA to investigate on this and prevent other BMW C650 Sport/GT biker to risk their life for facing the same issue.
