NHTSA Complaint #11555487 — 2010 BMW 328I

The contact owns a 2010 BMW 328I. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that because of the price that was quoted by the dealer for the repair, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the vehicle VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V707000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
