NHTSA Complaint #11538643 — 2017 FORD F-250

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while reversing, the steering wheel became firm, and the power steering became inoperable. The steering assist malfunction message was displayed. The contact’s husband replaced the steering wheel with parts from a salvage yard however, the failure reoccurred. The contact was able to drive slowly to the nearest dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the diagnostic test confirmed that the steering sensor had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was driven back to the dealer where it remained pending another diagnostic test. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
