The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while reversing the vehicle, the rearview camera turned off. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the rearview camera and instrument cluster would turn off intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated that upon moving the gear shifter into reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond, and the reverse(R) indicator light failed to illuminate. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to respond while driving from a complete stop. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to shift into a lower or higher gear. The contact stated that the powertrain and check engine warning lights had been illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys, where it was diagnosed that the transmission range sensor (TRS) had failed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting), and the contact was referred to the dealer. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was related to an unknown 10 years and 150,000 miles Extended Warranty; however, the vehicle was more than 10 years old and had exceeded the mileage. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
