NHTSA Complaint #11494554 — 2012 FORD FUSION

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and became difficult to steer. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving by using physical strength to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). However, the failure reoccurred while driving two years later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where an unknown software was reset. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving uphill four years later. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that the failure persisted upon turning off and restarting the vehicle. The contact's father then assisted her with driving the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 66,934.
