Consumer Description

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH and switching lanes, the steering wheel stiffened followed by a beeping sound. The power steering assist fault message was displayed. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the power steering control module (PSCM) needed to be replaced; however, the contact was informed that the repair might not fix the failure. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 134,000.
