NHTSA Complaint #11490186 — 2014 FORD FOCUS

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving from a complete stop and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle shuddered. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the transmission clutch was replaced under an unknown recall. However, the contact stated while driving 45 MPH 6-months later, the vehicle downshifted to first gear independently. The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact shifted from park(P) to drive (D); however, the transmission remained stuck in first gear and the vehicle would not exceed 10 MPH while driving. The contact was able to drive back to his residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the parts were on back order. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
