NHTSA Complaint #11488916 — 2018 CARRY-ON CARGO TRAILER

1) August 2022, Driving a pickup with a Carry-on trailer connected behind on state and county roads in Nebraska 2)Upon arriving at destination, it was discovered that the complete metal tailgate of the trailer was gone. 3) Contact was made with Corporate Carry-on Trailers in Georgia and with distributor Northern Tool Company in Omaha, NE regarding loss of the trailer gate and potential replacement 4) The tailgate was recovered in October 2022; an unknown party propped the displaced part on our property 5) Pictures of the three failed hinges both on the tailgate and trailer were then taken to Tractor Supply Company in Norfolk, NE, where the trailer was purchased, to report to the manager. 6) She contacted Carry-on Corporate and copied vin # and pictures to send to Carry-on Corporate 7) She recommended that I proceed with contacting NHTSA 8) there were no warnings or visible indications that the gate hinges were going to fail; weight restrictions were followed 9) this could have caused serious injury to drivers behind us or the potential of other drivers hitting it on the roadway 9) we are asking Tractor Supply or Carry-on Trailers to repair weld or replace the tailgate 10) the booklets received with the trailer only have warranty limitation on the tires.
