NHTSA Complaint #11481227 — 2009 FORD ESCAPE

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the electrical power steering became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The consumer stated the entire steering system would need to be replaced and the cost would be as much as $3500 to $5000+.
