NHTSA Complaint #11474817 — 2019 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN

I was in line at a fast food drive thru when a strange noise began coming from under my hood. When I went to drive forward, the engine revved but the vehicle didn’t move at first. It finally jerked into gear and I proceeded to exit the line and to a stop sign before driving onto the main road. I had no problem taking off from the stop sign but as I was accelerating on the main road, I got up to about 35mph and the vehicle revved again, but this time it stopped moving in the middle of the road. The car behind me blew their horn and ran off the road to a avoid rear-ending me. There was no CEL illuminated and no other warning or indication of a problem. I got off the road and turned the engine off. I turned it back on and took the back streets home and parked it. I had the transmission filter and fluid changed, and all was well for about another 200 miles. As I was driving about 60 miles an hour on a highway, I again lost forward motion and the engine revved to about 5000 rpm’s. I immediately steered off the highway to avoid a collision. Again, there no malfunction indicator light illuminated. After careful inspection by a certified technician, it was determined that the transaxle oil pump has failed.
