Consumer Description

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the hood inadvertently opened without warning. The contact immediately pulled over and noticed that the striker latch had detached from the hood and remained in the socket attached to the engine. The contact tied down the hood with material in his truck and then drove to a hardware store where he bought a metal chain and some clamps to temporarily hold the hood in place until he reached his destination. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where they informed him that they were unaware of such failures. The dealer referred him to an independent body shop for the repair of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
