Consumer Description
MY 2013 YAMAHA XTZ1200 SUPER TENERE HAS FAILED TO DECELERATE WHEN I SHUT THE THROTTLE OFF. THE ENGINE REVVED AT OVER 3000 RPM. WHEN IN GEAR IT WOULD JUST KEEP ACCELERATING UNLESS THE CLUTCH WAS ENGAGED, IF ENGAGED THE ENGINE WOULD DROP TO ABOUT 1500 RPM, HOWEVER WHEN RELEASED THE ENGINE WOULD AGAIN REV PAST 3000 RPM. WHEN THIS OCCURRED I TO PULLED OFF THE ROAD, KILLED THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED; IT TOOK A 5-7 RESTARTS UNTIL THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RUN PROPERLY. ON OTHER OCCASIONS THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHEN DECELERATING. I WILL BE TRAVELING AND PULL THE CLUTCH IN FOR A RED LIGHT, AND THE ENGINE WILL JUST DIE. WHEN AT THE LIGHT AND I RESTART IT THE RPM WILL BE AROUND 900 OR BELOW AND THEN JUST DIE AGAIN. WHEN GET IT RUNNING I MUST FEATHER THE THROTTLE TO KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING UNTIL I CAN GET THE VEHICLE IN MOTION AGAIN. ONCE THESE ISSUES BEGAN TO APPEAR I BEGAN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMON ISSUE BY THE FIRST GENERATION XTZ1200 OWNER (YEARS 2010-2013). THERE IS A FORUM FOR OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE (ALL GENERATIONS) WHERE THIS ISSUES HAS BEEN DISCUSSED AT LENGTH. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. MY BIKE HAS HAD NO MODIFICATIONS AND IS AT APPROXIMATELY 12200 MILES. MORE IMPORTANTLY IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE! THE FIRST TIME THE HIGH REV ISSUED HAPPENED WAS IN THE MORNING AND I WAS IN TRAFFIC IN A SCHOOL ZONE. CHILDREN WERE BEING DROPPED OFF FOR SCHOOL AT THE TIME. ALL TIMES WERE ON PUBLIC ROADS, BOTH CITY STREETS AND ON STATE ROADS WHERE SPEEDS RANGE FROM 40-55 MPH. DATE THIS HAPPENED SITED BELOW IS FOR THE HIGH REVVING ISSUE. THE FIRST LOW-NO IDLE AND STALLING ISSUE WAS MID-AUGUST.
