Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH (TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE) DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HATCH WINDOW DID NOT OPEN AND THE REAR WIPER DID NOT WORK DUE TO RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT THE HATCH MECHANISM WAS UPGRADED WITH A METAL PIECE TO PREVENT IT FROM RUSTING AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. UPDATED 11/01/16*LJ UPDATED 12/13/16.*JB
