Consumer Description

MY CHILD AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY INTERSTATE, 1100 MILES FROM HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS SET ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 70 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR JERKED. WE HAD ITEMS THAT FELL INTO THE FLOORBOARD. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES AND NOTICED THE CARS SPEEDOMETER HAD GONE TO ZERO. THE CAR BEGAN TO COAST EVEN THOUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS STILL ON. THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE COMING BEHIND US. AS I PUSHED THE GAS PETAL, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED A FORD DEALER AND THEY HAD IT TOWED. THE NEXT DAY WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS A "CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION" ALSO, THAT IT BLEW OUT SENSORS ECT.. I HAVE WRITTEN FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND THEY STATE THAT THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES OR FIELD SERVICE ACTIONS BEING TAKEN AND THEY URGED ME TO CONTACT WITH THE FORD DEALER SERVICING THE VEHICLE WITH ANY DISCOUNT OR ISSUES. THE FORD EDGE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES, AND I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. THIS IS A SERIOUS PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED US TO WRECK OR A TRUCK TO REAR END US AND SHOULD I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER THEN? I BELIEVE AND INVESTIGATION SHOULD TAKE PLACE BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GETS HURT OR KILLED. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR IS REQUIRING A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION TO THE SUM OF $5,382.00. I WILL HAVE THE RECEIPT AS SOON AS IT'S REPAIRED. I CANNOT EXPLAIN A CAUSE OTHER THAN AN INTERNAL FAILURE, AS THE FORD SERVICE MAN QUOTED. THE CAR HAS 96,000 MILES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME REGARDING ANY QUESTIONS. SINCERELY, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
