Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE DRIVESHAFT DROPPED DUE TO A LOOSE PINION NUT AND THE STEERING SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PINION NUT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SYMPTOMS STATED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V796000 (POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
