Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT LINKAGE CABLE FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IN REVERSE BUT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE GEAR SHIFT FELT AS IF THEY WERE SLIPPING BUT WOULD NOT DISPLAY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH ONLY DISPLAYED REVERSE. THE GEAR SHIFT BOX WAS SHOWING THAT THE GEARS WERE BEING CHANGED BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CONTACT HAD EXTREME DIFFICULTY SHIFTING THE GEAR INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT LINKAGE CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V224000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
