TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN THE WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
