TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A SLIGHT EXPLOSION SOUND. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY AND FOUND THAT THE FAN BLADE, RADIATOR AND OTHER UNDER HOOD COMPONENTS WERE BROKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FAN BLADE, RADIATOR, HOSES AND CONNECTORS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN) AND WHEN CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER, HE WAS TOLD HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 141,000.
THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO START THE CAR IS SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE RESOLUTION TO IT. IT'S A TREMENDOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING ON SEVERAL HIGHWAYS. THE CAR ATTEMPTS TO TURN OVER WHILE TRYING TO START IT HOWEVER NONE OF THE GAUGES ARE RESPONDING TO THE KEY IN THE IGNITION DURING TURN OVER. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS FORUMS WITH MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO EVERYTHING FROM SENSOR'S TO PCM ( MAIN COMPUTER ) TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IN MY CASE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM ISN'T STORING ANY CODES WITH A PROBLEM. INITIALLY I CHANGED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR BECAUSE OF THE CODE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE BECAUSE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS SHUT...
JEEP 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO INLINE 6CYL I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED LOW COOLANT AND OIL PRESSURE PROBLEMS. I HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED, THE OIL SENSOR SWITCH REPLACED, AND THE OIL PUMP REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE DONE INDIVIDUALLY IN THAT ORDER. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING LOW COOLANT ALTHOUGH THE CAR DOES NOT SEEM TO OVERHEAT. I RECENTLY HAD A PRESSURE TEST AND THERE WERE NO LEAKS. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED IN THE MORNING I HAVE THE PROPER OIL PRESSURE. AS SOON AS THE CAR WARMS UP THE OIL PRESSURE FLUCTUATES AND EVENTUALLY ACTIVATES THE ALERT INDICATOR (BELL SOUND). THE ENGINE SOUNDS FINE AND THERE ARE NO PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION THAT DID THE REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I USE A HEAVIER OIL FOR THE PRESSURE PROBLEM. I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE RESULTS. THIS MAY BE THE LAST ATTEMPT BEFORE AN ENGINE...
I HAVE HAD A SLOW COOLANT LEAK FOR THE LAST YEAR AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY. ALSO THE OIL GAUGE IS READING 0 AT IDLE, BUT GOES BACK TO NORMAL WHEN DRIVING. I ALSO HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT CYLINDER MISFIRES IN THE LAST YEAR. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHERE THE COOLANT IS GOING AND IF THESE ARE ALL RELATED. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2007..IN NOVEMBER I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST AUTO SHOP WHERE THEY SAID THE RADIATOR WAS DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE CHANGED...COUPLE DAYS LATER THE FAN STOPPED WORKING WHICH ALSO HAD TO BE CHANGED. AFTER ALL THE OVER HEATING THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE ENGINE BURNED OUT AND ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER THE FACT MY CAR WOULDNT START. HAD THE TRUCK WORKING FOR A WHILE UNTIL APRIL 2008 WHERE MY TRANSMISSION STARTED FAILING. I KEPT HEARING A CLICKING NOISE AND THE TRUCK WOULDNT ACCELERATE AS FAST IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. VERY LITTLE HEAT IS COMING OUT THE DRIVER SIDE AND COLD AIR IS COMING OUT THE PASSENGER VENTS. *TR
I HAD A MYSTERIOUS COOLANT LEAK FROM MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAD THE WATER PUMP CHECKED AND IT WAS FINE. I HAD TO ADD COOLANT AND WATER TO MY JEEP EVERYTIME I WENT SOMEWHERE SO IT DID NOT OVER-HEAT. I WENT TO WORK AND MY JEEP WAS STARTING TO OVER-HEAT. AFTER MY 8 HOUR SHIFT I PUT IN 2 GALLONS OF WATER INTO THE RADIATOR. IT SEEMED FINE UNTIL I GOT ABOUT A MILE FROM MY APARTMENT WHEN MY JEEP JUST STALLED OUT. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT. I HAD A MECHANIC COME OVER AND HE THOUGHT I JUST BLEW A HEAD GASKET. AS HE WENT TO REPLACE IT, HE REALIZED THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN UP BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, ALSO I STILL OWE 7000 ON IT. *TR

I HAD THE COOLANT CHECKED AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. RECENTLY HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE ENGINE AND TOOK IT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. SHOP TECHNICIAN SAID MY ENGINE IS GOING TO BLOW AND SHOULD REPLACE IT ASAP. UNACCEPTABLE! I FOLLOWED EVERY OIL CHANGE RELIGIOUSLY! *TR
I HAVE A COOLANT LEAK THAT I CAN NOT GET FIXED. ALL 2000 GRAND CL V6 HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH NO RECALL. ENGINE OVERHEATS, LOSES COOLANT & CAN'T FIND LEAK. *TR
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLE. THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CONSTANTLY COMES ON AND I HAVE TO ADD COOLANT WEEKLY, ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO VISIBLE LEAK. MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK WHEN A MECHANIC TOLD ME THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE AND MIXING WITH MY OIL. THE MECHANIC ESTIMATED I WILL NEED A COMPLETELY NEW ENGINE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS SINCE THE COOLANT-OIL MIXTURE HAS BEEN RUNNING THROUGH MY ENGINE FOR SOME TIME NOW. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. MY REAR LEFT BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHT GOES OUT WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE ROTORS AND FINALLY HAD THE MECHANIC REPLACE THEM WITH A DIFFERENT KIND. *TR

MY JEEP HAS 101,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS EXPERIENCING COOLANT LEAKS AND ALSO THE CRACK IN THE CYLINDER HEAD BETWEEN THE 3RD AND 4TH CYLINDER. NOW THE Y WAY I SEE IT, IS THAT IS SOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM THEN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON IT. IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE CONSUMERS THAT WE ARE SHELLING OUT ALL OF THIS MONEY FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS IN THE VEHICLE DESIGN. *TR

THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS REMAINED ILLUMINATED FOR FOUR DAYS. THE CONTACT WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY THE DEALER ON OCTOBER 1, 2007. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE LEAK DETECTION PUMP WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE (CODE 1494). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 119,000.

IN THE LAST SIX YEARS THE FOLLOWING REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE: BRAKES REPLACED 3 TIMES AND NEED TO BE DONE AGAIN DOOR WINDOW MOTOR COOLING FAN, RADIATOR EVAPORATOR COILS HOOD LIFTERS-HOOD WILL NOT STAY UP DRIVERS DOOR CLUNKS STARTER COMPRESSOR LEAKING AXLE SEALS AND NOW I HAVE A CRACKED HEAD ON THE ENGINE. BRAKES KEEP FAILING. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR IN 1999 I RETURNED TO THE DEALER COMPLAINING ABOUT HEAVY BRAKE PULSATION AT 30MPH. THEY TOLD ME THEY FIXED IT BUT IT CONTINUED DOING IT. I KEPT GOING BACK OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THE LAST TIME I WENT BACK WAS 3 WEEKS AGO, AND THEY AGAIN CHANGED THE BRAKES WITH NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKES WHICH SUPPOSEDLY WOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER THE BACK BRAKES B/C THEY HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT AND THAT I DIDN'T NEED TO CHANGE THEM. I DROVE AWAY BUT THE CAR STILL PULSATES HEAVILY AS SOON AS I BRAKE IF I AM DRIVING OVER 20MPH. FURTHERMORE MY CAR'S ENGINE BROKE DOWN COMPLETELY AFTER 32000 MILES OR APPROXIMATELY 7 MONTHS AGO. THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE FAILED B/C I DIDN'T CHANGE THE OIL FOR 10,000 MILES. THE MECHANICS REPORT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER...
